2024: Up 8 points at halftime in the Elite Eight over an 11-seed NC State you dominated in the regular season, with a Final Four ahead of you. Team totally collapses.

2025: With Cooper Flagg, the best player maybe in college basketball history (at least according to the media) you are up 14 over Houston in the Final Four -still up 9 with two minutes to go -and lose.

2026: Up 19 in the Elite Eight, 14 with about nine minutes to go, and lose, despite having the best player in Boozer and being the #1 overall seed.

All that follows a blowout loss to Tennessee in the round of 32 his first year.

Does a coach survive that at Kentucky? Especially a coach replacing a program building legend? I think the fan base would be in total revolt.

Yes, an UK coach “survives” that stretch! All 3 seasons are deep runs with NBA level players all over the court!

All any coach can do is get the best available talent and put them in a position to win big, and Scheyer has done that…

Now, have that happen a couple of more consecutive seasons, and some questions would need to be asked, but the coach still isn’t getting replaced, especially considering the regular season results and conference tournament results.

The questions will come now. Sheyer has had extraordinary talent and has had low seeds. While the results of 2 elite eights and one final four rival any team in the country, it is underachieving for that period with that talent. No one would fire him, but he must live the “can he get over hump” questions that similar coaches have faced.

Throw in the fact that the ACC is currently down and his record isn't quite as impressive. With that talent, he should have probably been undefeated in the ACC this year at least.

What rock have you been hiding under, look at the absolute **** show and debacle we have going on at UK right now, Pope couldn’t carry that guy’s jockstrap, we have become a laughing stock. Next year we have double digit losses again, we are a shell of what we once were, at least 7-10 programs have greatly surpassed UK over the past 25 years.

Just playing the other side, as some of the sport's commentators have pointed out, Scheyer fell short with 2 of the most highly regarded recruits in years. Cam and Cooper were considered rare talents who should have carried Duke, with all their other talented players, to a title.

Yeah, as long as Duke continues to get THAT level of talent, they should "break through." But, what happens when the talent level drops a notch or two? Does "Calipari without the title" fall as far as Cal did in his final years at UK?

The problem is he seems like he might be bad luck.

Therefore they probably will be let him go after next year if he doesn't do anything. Of which you'll have to make it to the final four just to make them happy.


So he's done after next year when he doesn't do as well because he won't have the very best ******* player in the world on his team again.


He's a garbage *** coach that has been getting lucky off his recruiting.

Not possible for Jon Scheyer to win a championship he's a ******* idiot.
Look For him to take an NBA job.

This guy (and coach K) start every season on 2nd base, and scheyer just cant get it done.

Honestly hope Duke keeps him forever. Hes 100% their weak link. They have the best players, the most backend money for their program, the NCAA backing them, ESPN backing them, an arena thats been made almost impossible to win in.. simply put, Scheyer has been a disappointment.

Coming up short in an E 8 and consecutive FFs will get you fired around here.

He better take that Bulls job when Billy D takes the UNC job.

Then Hurley can take the Duke job.

He had a much better setup. He was the coach in waiting behind a legend and then got the easy handoff. Pope got a coach abandoning ship and taking all the cargo with him. Sheyer has given no indication he could have jumped in at UK any better. In fact, he lost to Pope last year while arguably having superior talent. The two players at the top of the NBA’s rookie of the year ballot were his to lose with.

If Pope had Sheyer’s teams and records for the past 4 years, he would have a big number of detractors, nevertheless. “Dude cannot get it done with the best program and players. So many doing more with less!!”

Scheyer is recruiting his *** off and getting big time players there. He's winning the ACC and the tournaments. He's going very far in the tournament. They haven't lost to St. Peters or Oakland. Yes there is a choke factor going on, but he's doing much better than coaches that have decades of experience.

I don't even like the dude, but we aren't in the positioning to be laughing at Duke's problems.

Yes. What the last 3 years show is just how hard it is to win the NCAA Tournament, regardless of talent level.

My post had nothing to do with Pope. It’s my perspective on if the UK fan base would be revolting after the last three year’s mentioned. This fan would not be. I do agree there would be those that would.

We would be questioning his ability to win a title but yes, his job would be 100% secure.

Have you seen the contracts barney gives? See how awful pope is and he is 100% getting a year 3.

I didn’t say your post said anything about Pope. You responded to a UK fan post saying it was just dumb and I am also commenting on UK fans.

You obviously don't like Pope or like him but think he shouldn't have been hired. Either way, here's an honest question for you. What do you think Pope's record would be if he had that same Duke team at Kentucky? Me personally, I think Pope could coach actual talent at end game situations better than Scheyer. Pope's problem is recruiting & he's never gonna have the same talent as Duke. The way it looks now, Keegan Brown will build our rosters in his analytical vision & he had a big hand in helping build the team Pope's 1st year here. If you haven't read the article already on how Keegan Brown will build a team here then you should, its rather interesting. I hope it works.

I’m sure Will Wade, TJ Otzleberger, Jai Lucas, Nate Oates would all go 40-0 with Duke’s resources, NIL, talent, etc…
