My child will be going virtual to start the year. Three reasons we made this decision:

1. We live in EKY and Covid is just now starting to take off around here.
2. She’s starting kindergarten (school starts 9/8), and that did have an effect on our decision: the fact that she’ll be learning things that her mother and I are capable of helping her with.
3. Kids aren’t going to properly/consistently wear masks or social distance, and I don’t have a ton of faith in school staff to sanitize properly.

So she will begin the year as a virtual student. We will monitor how things are going, and transition her to the classroom when/if things are going good.

As a teacher who keeps up with the data and risk factors involved I’m personally in favor of at least a hybrid model or at least personal choice for students. As long as Dr. Stack is peddling this and his March mindset though I don’t see anyway out of this for public schools. Sept 28th, what will change in their mind? Frustrated. The vast majority of educators want to get back to work and get kids socializing again. I don’t understand the end game here of our state leadership unless it’s demoralization of a generation.

There's no end game, at least not in Ky. You have a group that is following other states, their only way to relay information is using ****** parenting style fear mongering, and terrified of their own shadow. Also, no offense, but they're at the mercy of the teachers union which seems to be focused on a vocal minority.

If we don't have a vaccine in 2020, IMO, it makes much more sense to just get back now. We're going to have to learn to live with this for the foreseeable future. The longer we wait the more collateral damage we do.

No offense taken at all. I’m not a KEA fan in the least. To me it is so self evident that we need to get on with living that it’s become beyond frustrating to see our leaders lead with fear. Hopefully sanity prevails at some point.

Steven stack and andy Beshear are the worst thing to happen to this state in a long long time. The stance they're taking is going to have terrible consequences for this "commonwealth" for many years, if not decades. They aren't data driven.

26 years of watching that dumpster fire has convinced me, that If I had school age chilldren, I'd do whatever is necessary to keep them out of that train wreck.

Believe me. Institutionally speaking, the education of children is about the last thing school administrators (scores and scores of them) are concerned about.

The selfishness, stupidity, and arrogance are beyond anything you could imagine...

I'd like to be here more often, but I'm swamped: handing out technology that won't work, trying to teach parents, teachers, and administrators how to play youtube videos, spotify, check their gmail accounts on the school network, re-setting passwords that they somehow forgot within 36 hours, providing state ID numbers to parents that are too stupid to read a f*cking email, listening to high level administrators whine about a dust cover that didn't come in for their new Surface Pro (that they DON'T need), waiting for parents that somehow, can't even remember their 6th kids' birthday, fielding requests like: I can't remember my home WiFi network password, the school done said you can fix it, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on...

Public education will doom us all. And I loathe myself for participating in it, just for a paycheck.

A kid in my daughter's class tested positive. We got the letter today. Said that there was no need for her to self quarantine . We're going to talk to our doc tomorrow, still going to send her to school.

It was going to happen. The test will pick up RNA from it and other coronavirus variants. Kids might test positive even if it's just a common cold. Just keep on keeping on.

Full re-open. Get your dirty heathen children off my streets [laughing]

In all seriousness though, full reopen. Time to push forward. Kids also need some real normalcy. All this time off absolutely cant be good. Im sure you parents out there can attest to it.

For the socialization of your kids amongst their peers. I don’t know if it’s nature or nurture, but most homeschool kids I ran into were weirdos.

When Joey Rupption calls people weirdos, that means something.

I think the right answer for almost all of this is to let individuals decide and not let the government keep making arbitrary decisions.

Schools should be open and it ought to be up to the parents to decide if they want to send their kids. The majority of people want to send their kids to school. Instead of letting the whining minority hold everyone else back, we should just let people act according to their risk tolerance.

I'm not for a full re-open. I think families and teachers deserve a choice, especially if they have at risk family members in the home or are terrified because our politicians and media have driven it into them.

What happens when all the virtual only kids’ parents start just signing them up for home school?

Teachers can be replaced w/ subs that have no issues going to a class that will have less of a risk than Kroger or Malones. Using the fear excuse doesn't fly for teachers....their risk is way down the list of possible areas to be infected.

Kind of agree. Lot's of workers have been allowed to work from home. I would say open a list of NTI positions and when they're full you either go back, wait for an opening, or go on EFMLA if qualified.

You should try a day of being a substitute teacher.

There has been a significant boost recently in enrollment in at least some of the private schools in Louisville. The school my kids go to was down a little bit in enrollment because a lot of parents lost jobs during the lockdowns and couldn’t afford the private route.

However...

Almost immediately after King Andy’s latest “Sept. 28th” decree the school was back up to full capacity. Two other private schools I know for sure had the same thing occur. Parents want their kids in school.

Makes me wonder why they haven't reported on actual city/zip code infections but have no problem calling out schools and sports teams. I don't have an issue with it but feel like this kind of granular data should have been shared long ago.

I have an idea...it wouldn't support his statewide shutdowns of SMB because that doesn't fit the agenda but on the flip side this would support the agenda for shutting down schools.

It's amazing really. People have been pushed fear for 5 months, and just soak up anything they get that continues the narrative. It's asinine.
What amazes me is that very intelligent people cannot have a civil conversation about this when statistics are used. It becomes an emotional argument. The entire party has figured out that the only way to win is by using emotion, and deflecting data as the source of truth. It’s all just continued attacks on anything or anyone that won’t conform. Very scary for the future of our country.

I’ve had people tell me I want my parents to die and that I don’t care about kids when using data that contradicts the perpetual lockdown state. It’s a bizarre phenomenon. Some have relied on others to protect them from a small virus that in all odds wouldn’t kill them anyway. So now the people who have a realistic hold on what the virus is are seen as dangerous because they want to continue life? I’ve known about 12 people that have had it so far. All have survived but a couple were pretty sick. They all think we need to get on with it too. Like FDR said, “we have nothing to fear but fear itself.” Just my opinion.

Any time I ask anyone on twitter to prove kids are gonna go to school and then kill teachers and grandma, I get crickets in return.

13 kids did not return to my daughter's class today. Not sure if those kids are being quartined or if parents kept them home by choice.

The call with the doc was a 5 minute call with a nurse...watch for symptoms blah, blah...that'll be 50 bucks.
