PSU + Bananarama + mid 80s + me being a horny teen = see you in 5 minutes

Ha! Posted my video before seeing your post. Weirdly I went to the flames of ‘Venus’ versus the way more obvious and appropriate ‘Cruel Summer’.

Johnny Thunders was the inspiration for this song by Paul Westerberg.

Thunders was an interesting guy. Brilliant musician. Brilliant. But a total a$$hole as a human.

His LAMF album is among the most important in rock history, as was his lesser known work with The Dolls.

I , too, prefer Venus to Cruel Summer. Regardless, the short haired blonde on the right is mine.

We have a deal (my preference below):

Another fun fact about Thunders and Westerberg…Thunders was tight with Tommy Ramone and some of The Ramones in the 1970s. I think his LAMF album may have been the first recording of “Chinese Rock” which was written by The Ramones and some legal tussling ensued.

Anyway, Tommy Ramone went on to produce The Replacements during their seminal mid-80s run with Tim and Pleased to Meet Me. I wonder how that connection built into this song about Thunders.

Today (7/25) is the birthday of the late, great Steve Goodman. To celebrate, the song he's most famous for, even if it was made famous by another musician:
