According to the Reynolds coach in an article that I read about the game, he didn’t offer any credit to Murphy for taking it to his team in the first half. He said Reynolds didn’t play Reynolds football at all in the first half and basically implied that Reynolds beat themselves. That team in black and gold had a lot to do with how Reynolds played in the first half, and may have finished the job without the injuries. Hope they come to the Hill next year for a rematch , but I have my doubts.

You do realize this is probably the worst Reynolds team in a long time. The injury sucks though. As an Erwin fan i know how it feels. We lost arguably the best player in the mountains in our first game and it certainly can affect a team!
Murphy played a good 1st half but that dont win u a GAME...couldn't hold onto the ball and u blaming the refs
. reynolds made a defensive adjustment in the second half and shut down the offense. Murphy couldn't stop the pass in the second half...this is one of the most down reynolds teams I have seen and u couldn't win... big and bad in 2A but that's itI agree. Losing your best player for the year sucks. Next man up
I get that this may not be the strongest Reynolds team ever, but a little credit to Murphy in that article from the Reynolds HC would have been nice. At least Murphy had the balls to step up and play the game, and the Dogs have a long and proud championship history. A little show of respect wouldn’t have killed him. Murphy did dominate Reynolds in the first half in every phase of the game. That cannot be denied.
To your last sentence, I bet you weren’t thinking that in the first half last Friday. Also, it wasn’t some super adjustment by Reynolds that shut Murphy down in the second half. It was more about #5 going down and Murphy having to move kids around to compensate. Teams deal with injuries all the time. Murphy didnt hardly move the ball in second half and couldn't stop passing game...plain and simple murphy lost the game to a better "down year" team for Reynolds. Next man up. Reynolds did change defense and players adjustment, just like they did offensively and it was over for Murphy....again good luck in the 2A playoffs
Ok question, how do you know this is a “down year” for Reynolds? The season is still young and anything can still happen. So if Reynolds ends up winning their conference and makes noise in the playoffs, will it then cease to be a “down” year, and will Murphy then be given more respect over there?
Murphy beat Asheville in 2001 and 2002 at WCU and Asheville people said the same thing….talking about how “down” they were. Funny thing is, the Asheville team in 01 lost by only five points to ACR, and the 02 team went all the way to the 3aa western final lol. Doesn’t seem like they were that “down” to me lol. FYI, there’s no shame in having a close game with, or even…gasp…losing to Murphy! The Dogs have a long tradition of success. ACR and Asheville, or whoever else out there don’t need to say they are down every time it happens.

I have respect for Murphy and im sure many around here do for what they have done...u came on here making excuses about the game. Reynolds is a down year...everyone will tell u that.
Thats Asheville not Reynolds. REYNOLDS defenses 99-02 were scary good with 2 4A(now like 7A) state titles.. Asheville game is a rivalry game usually always close. But guess what, Murphy with a veteran team played a young down Reynolds and LOST!!!!
Hate to hurt your feelings but this Murphy team, while having a lot of veteran players, is still young in spots (and still pretty young overall) and is nowhere near as good as most of the better Murphy teams down thru the years. Don’t hurt your hand patting yourself on the back. Besides, shouldn’t Reynolds be better than Murphy most of the time, given the difference in school size???
Still more experienced then this reynolds team with no experience...Reynolds played and beat bigger size schools for years from charlotte, winston salem, and raleigh.....Again Murphy is very good for 2A with a winning tradition.

I do realize that, that's why it was so frustrating to watch Murphy turn the ball over 6 times and lose by 3 TD's to a Reynolds team that was in my opinion the third best team Murphy has seen this year.
As for the rest of that statement I stand behind it, a healthy Murphy is the team to beat in the 2A west. Despite not being overly impressed with Reynolds overall, their pass rush was good and their secondary was very good and better than any secondary Murphy will see in the 2A west. When Reynolds realized Murphy's QB didn't have the arm to challenge/match their athleticism in the secondary, Murphy's offense collapsed. Because without #5 on the field Reynolds could just key on #8, so the run game wasn't there anymore either.
