NB and SD had wayyy different tools to work with. I get the feeling stoops may "interfere " more with less results. we threw 20 40 yard passes in the opener. .. the HC should have a talk with the oc.Interesting take...talked to someone the other day VERY close to Neil Brown and was told that MS and NB also had issues about his offensive schemes so maybe this wasn't all SD's fault...hope MS has finally found the guy to run the ball control running offense he thinks he can run in the SEC AT KENTUCKY...guess we shall see...
Jesus. Stoops must be the dumbest guy on the planet. Why does he keep hiring these spread coordinators who like to throw the ball? I mean clearly he wants to run a ball control running offense. Clearly.Interesting take...talked to someone the other day VERY close to Neil Brown and was told that MS and NB also had issues about his offensive schemes so maybe this wasn't all SD's fault...hope MS has finally found the guy to run the ball control running offense he thinks he can run in the SEC AT KENTUCKY...guess we shall see...
If what your saying is true why does Stoops keep hiring coordinators that run passing offenses? Grans offense is anything but ball control. I think Stoops issues with Dawson where leadership issues getting his side of the ball organized.Interesting take...talked to someone the other day VERY close to Neil Brown and was told that MS and NB also had issues about his offensive schemes so maybe this wasn't all SD's fault...hope MS has finally found the guy to run the ball control running offense he thinks he can run in the SEC AT KENTUCKY...guess we shall see...
Guess we shall see with SD with what he does at SM with an excellent QB...as for why MS does what he does I don't know, but do you deny that all he talks about is defense and controlling the ball on off with running the ballIf what your saying is true why does Stoops keep hiring coordinators that run passing offenses? it's all a nefarious plot. his end game is simply to befuddle and frustrate fans.If what your saying is true why does Stoops keep hiring coordinators that run passing offenses?
I wouldn't be so sure. Wasn't Southern Miss a bowl team last year? Could be closer than we'd like.Poor guy is in for a good drumming in week one.
So for you guys who want to be nothing more than smart asses what if this doesn't work out with Gran then will it be Gran's fault..Although I don't think he will run the same off that either NB or SD wantedit's all a nefarious plot. his end game is simply to befuddle and frustrate fans.
No I will not admit that because it's not true. Stoops has said numerous times he wants to throw it. His issue with Dawson was lack of ability to get his side of the ball to play hard. Stoops admits he is not an offensive expert but throwing it twice at the 1 pissed him off. Then the defense gives Dawson a 24 3 lead at half. Dawson unit in return comes out and has 7 3 and outs. How can any OC worth his salt not be able to scheme 1 freaking first down.Guess we shall see with SD with what he does at SM with an excellent QB...as for why MS does what he does I don't know, but do you deny that all he talks about is defense and controlling the ball on off with running the ball
Slugger... If Gran doesn't work out finding blame will be easy... They'll be running like rats from a sinking ship....So for you guys who want to be nothing more than smart asses what if this doesn't work out with Gran then will it be Gran's fault..Although I don't think he will run the same off that either NB or SD wanted
OK ...I agree with this point , but with playing So Miss the first game it may be the most interesting first game--excluding Otis--that we will have had in a long time...No I will not admit that because it's not true. Stoops has said numerous times he wants to throw it. His issue with Dawson was lack of ability to get his side of the ball to play hard. Not from the Vandy one yard line... on two separate occasions...
I agree all these wr we have watched the ups and downs are juniors. Guys like Baker Juice Badet Bone Conrad Boom are on normal playing curves. My issue with Dawson was more his demeanor and he could not get his guys to play together. All Dawson talked about was how much depth we had. Then Dawson goes out and gives 3 wr 85 percent of the snaps. You have to find niche for your back ups. Guys like Timmons T.V Bone are talented and should be producing way more than under Dawson. Biggest thing I loved about Gran And Hinshaw they had 6 wr with over 400 receiving yards and I believe 10 caught more than 10 balls. There were some problems with the offense both the past two years, both new OC's that didn't have the ultimate in talent or experience to work with. Since Stoops knows and has worked with Gran and he has a lot of SEC experience I would assume he would trust him a lot more, plus I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't promise him some autonomy in order to get him. And the biggest thing is I think we now have the talent and experience (mostly more experience) so that he will be happy with Gran's results.
In regard to USM hiring our OC do they announce their salaries, seems like he could get a job a lot easier by working for a dollar and still make the same money. If he didn't get a raise (doubtful) he is just working for the experience and to build his resume anyway. I doubt if anyone does that, (pays a dollar because they can) but it could enter into the picture.
Probably won't amount to anything but it is interesting that a coach UK canned reappears on their schedule and a coach UofL canned reappears on their schedule.
Peace
I think it's like Tubby and playing up tempo. You may want to do it but do you have the nerve to do it. You do have to accept risks to your defense to run a spread attack. History has show the risks are worth it because a spread offense wins more battles than it loses. However it is still tough for a defensive guy to willingly put his defense in a bad spot. Even if the stats show that you make up for it in the end. I believe Stoops has tried to run a spread attack but when he sees his defense in a bad spot he retreats into his shell. If what your saying is true why does Stoops keep hiring coordinators that run passing offenses? Grans offense is anything but ball control. I think Stoops issues with Dawson where leadership issues getting his side of the ball organized.
Anyone taking bets on whether he lands him or not? My money is on NO. Kentucky isn't really competitive yet in the SEC but we soon will be, and I don't even know what conference S. Miss plays in, so my guess is he will stick to playing in the best conference in America. If someone steals him away from us, it will not be S. Miss
On so now I guess Otis fans are saying that Thomas was fired before he came to UK!!!What coach did UofL can and where did he go?
I was wondering that myself. I suspect that WildCard, one of the most clever U of LoL fans on the internet, was yet again playing his little passive-aggressive parlor trick; however, IF a UofLoL coach really did get fired, and if he can give me that name, and if the name is not Thomas, then I will retract and apologize to him. What coach did UofL can and where did he go?
For everyone's review. Hopefully, our friend will be able to give us the name of the "canned" UofLoL coach.Probably won't amount to anything but it is interesting that a coach UK canned reappears on their schedule and a coach UofL canned reappears on their schedule.

Can't recall his name, but it's the Alcorn St. coach. So who did S. Miss hire for their Head Coach?

In my book, "not going to be rehired" is pretty much the same as being "canned". If you and others see it differently that is fine. For everyone's review. Hopefully, our friend will be able to give us the name of the "canned" UofLoL coach.
That is an opinion there is zero facts that he would not be retained. Jody Demling is a homer anything he says is taken with a huge grain of salt. Kinda hard to believe Nick Petrino knows more about Wr than a freaking Miami u hall of famer. In my book, "not going to be rehired" is pretty much the same as being "canned". It's not the same, but it's close to the same. That is, IF his contract was almost up, and IF he really, really wasn't going to be re-hired.In my book, "not going to be rehired" is pretty much the same as being "canned". If you and others see it differently that is fine.

The "fact" that Thomas was not going to be retained actually first surfaced on this very board, from WildCard himself. He has an "inside source" who gave him this information. He can't give us the name because it's confidential; and couldn't give us the information at the time he heard it, because it was also confidential, but, conveniently, once Thomas left anyway, then he could at least tell us THAT part of it, since it was out in the open, anyway. Or something like that. Some of the UofLoL spin on this is really as entertaining as reading a good Forsythe or LeCarre novel. That is an opinion there is zero facts that he would not be retained. Interesting take. I think you are sort of onto something, but not completely. First, Stoops is a smart football man from a smart football family. But football is a team sport, and winning in the SEC is hard. When Stoops came here in 2013, he was clearly trying to unite the Big Blue Nation behind him. When he took the Kentucky job, he was asked why at the press conference. He answered that he came here because of the Big Blue Nation. Right off the bat, he hired Neal Brown, Chad Scott, John Schlarman so he could connect with our fans. Let's not forget, a lot of Kentucky fans - not me - were screaming bloody murder for the return of the air raid offense. Stoops knew he couldn't smash other SEC teams in the mouth and run the football down their throats. Spreading the field gave him a chance to win games, and it worked at times. But Stoops has obviously struggled with questions about offensive pace because his defenses haven't had quality depth. Stoops wanted his defensive players to get a breather on the sideline. But Brown wanted to play fast. That's 1 reason Brown left, obviously not the only reason. Stoops unwisely doubled down when he hired Shannon Dawson. The hire was based on a recommendation from his big brother Bob who knows Dana Holgorsen and was impressed with West Virginia's offense. But the Dawson hire was Stoops' biggest mistake since coming to Kentucky. Dawson and Stoops never connected, and had no chemistry. The result was a split in the locker room. Remains to be seen whether Eddie Gran is a better choice, but morale in the coaching staff is already better because Stoops and Gran get along. It may be true that Stoops actually preferred Gran a year ago, but that doesn't matter now. Gran believes in a 50-50 run pass balance. Stoops will be more comfortable with that approach. But again, Stoops has signed 4 recruiting classes now, and his roster is deeper and more physical than it was in prior seasons. We still can't run the football down Alabama's throat, but I expect this next Kentucky team to be more physical and more sound in the running game than Stoops' previous teams. The big question is whether Stoops' defense and special teams will be more sound this year than his previous teams.Jesus. Stoops must be the dumbest guy on the planet. I'm only going by what I was told "in confidence" in November. Maybe it was just a lucky guess but it came to pass. Unlike a mid-contract termination you typical do not make news announcements of a "failure to renew". It just happens with little fanfare until it does go public and the fanfare is usually about the new replacement. But the story usually leaks out. It's not the same, but it's close to the same. That is, IF his contract was almost up, and IF he really, really wasn't going to be re-hired.
It's odd how the "fact" that he wasn't going to be re-hired only surfaced after he LEFT to take the UK job; just like it's odd how we only learned that Nick Petrino was the actual WR coach last year only after Thomas left to take the UK job. Some would call the timing coincidental. I would call it convenient.
Can it be your last words on this board period? Sorry we don't believe a word of what the liars at UL spew. I'm sure Thomas grew tired of babysitting baby Petrino. I'm sure he grew tired of the b.s. from Petrino.s

I was told that it was a question of the employee and his boss not seeing eye to eye on some things (i.e., time commitment; CBP has a rep for demanding a lot from assistants). I was also told at the time that Petrino the younger was "working" with the WRs as a GA. That probably contributed to whatever differences there were between CBP and Thomas.
Assistant coaches lead nomadic lives. If you are serious about becoming a HC or even a career coordinator that movement is what builds your resume. Sometimes that action is based on a job opportunity and sometime the action is made for other reasons. CBP had some "young" guys on his staff and 3 are gone this year; two by choice and one by "mutual agreement". It happens.
I think wayyyy too many are reading this situation (and my comments on same) as: "Ha, Ha, UK had to hire a guy UofL fired (i.e., did not renew)". It ain't. I'm sure UK had other choices for a WR coach and they chose Thomas. I'm disappointed that, for whatever reasons, his "career" did not work out better at UofL. It may work out great for UK then you can say: "Ha, Ha, what a dumb move by UofL".
It is 100% OK if you don't believe a word of what I said. These are my last words on the "Thomas to Kentucky" subject. The context of my OP in this thread was "it was interesting" that UofL and UK were both going to face one of last year's coaches this year.

Guess we will find out in the fall, but still waiting for one of you guys that doesn't think this is on MS to tell us what happens if Gran is unwilling to have a 65-35--70-30 run pass ration and we once again have an offense averging 22-23 ppg and not capable of scoring 30+ppg at UK to win the way every body wants to seeInteresting take. If you haven't seen the contract, how can you say that it is "likely"?guess we'd have to see the contract, but I'd think that UK's payment due to Dawson for next season would likely be deducted by whatever S. Miss is paying him
happy he got a job, best of luck to him other than game 1
Real good point. This and the fact he never caught on that Patrick needed short timing routes to get going so that he could just throw on time and not have to read and react as much. He was effective when using this approach but wouldn't stick with it. Kept "Hoping" he would start learning to get better instead of going with what clearly worked better for Pat and the team.I agree all these wr we have watched the ups and downs are juniors. Stoops is responsible for every hire he makes. If stoops had kept Dawson the I had an issue. Gran will not automatically run 70 30-65 35 ratios. Like any Coord worth his salt Gran will run what fits this teams personnel. We actually average 29.8 ppg Browns 2nd year so I'm not sure that is the barometer. I don't care if Gran runs 70 30 run pass as long as we average between 28 40 ppg we go bowling most likely. Now I will say this if we are not an uptempo offense like Gran said and we fail that is on Stoops. This is year 4 and Stoops TRUSTS Gran so I think he turns him loose. This all is just my opinion.Guess we will find out in the fall, but still waiting for one of you guys that doesn't think this is on MS to tell us what happens if Gran is unwilling to have a 65-35--70-30 run pass ration and we once again have an offense averging 22-23 ppg and not capable of scoring 30+ppg at UK to win the way every body wants to see
Glad Dawson landed somewhere.
