SEC Expanding?

Seeing a lot of smoke out there in regard to Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC potentially.

Damn, that could create a bunch of chaos in the near future, if that were to occur. Doubt Big XII would survive, outside of bringing in a few thriving G5 schools, like Cincinnati, UCF, etc. Or, maybe Colorado and Nebraska would consider going back home. Either way, this might ultimately be the chance where WVU could end up in a closer conference, say the ACC, B1G, or American.

Must be peak of summer since we have an expansion thread going. Better hope an AAC invite is NOT extended. If Big 12 falls apart due to Oklahoma and Texas leaving, which I don't think it will, we would be best in the ACC. I doubt the SEC would take a third and fourth team after those two.

Done DEAL......just like WVU to _______ (oh never mind)

no way Texas would go to the SEC. they would have zero stroke and get told to STFU by at least 10 SEC schools any time they open their mouth. Plus there would be no horns down protection from the conference so Austin couldn’t go there.

Oklahoma has Oklahoma State tied to them and they’re not a prize by SEC standards

I think if any SEC expansion goes on it involves NC State and VPI. I think that goes when the B1G goes to B16 with UVA and UNC.

Need to check with Hedgeman and see when our SEC invite is arriving. Probably stuck in the fax machine with Tavita Finau's LOI.

You just proved that your cuck daddy, TrollVanZandt, made the stupid USC to the Big 12 prediction. This is one of your daily reach-arounds that he and his other 35 alters won't enjoy, as you've exposed him for being an idiot once again. Thanks for playing, and offering no content, as usual, band fruit.

Take note:

This allegedly is UT and OU asking the SEC for membership. It is not the SEC issuing an invitation to UT and OU for membership.

Big difference there. If the former, nothing much to worry about other than internet chatter. If it was the second, then be worried. It would still take 3/4 vote of the SEC to accept and there is a very small chance for that to happen - especially for UT.

You should be more concerned that Texas and Oklahoma are allegedly looking for an exit ramp than receiving an invitation to go without knowing whether they want to leave or not. If the SEC says, "no," then Texas and OU might approach the Big Ten or the ACC, each of which makes similar $$$ as the SEC.

Not concerned at all. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't.

Suppose it does, then that shifts the conference landscape, negotiations, renegotiations, etc. into turmoil. WVU lands somewhere in the mix.

This is essentially the death knell of college sports anyway. Root, I, and a few others have been saying this for years. It's now a semi-pro league if you think about it, complete with free agency (transfer portal), professional pricing, and licensing agreements.

Other conferences will have to try to keep up and expand. WVU will be fine.

Look at the trolls

1)No incentive for the SEC to add these schools
It would mean the SEC gives up and admits they made a mistake. Not happening.
They already signed their Tier 1 contract so unless this was some backroom
deal kept hidden from the public by everyone involved I don’t think it is possible

2) It makes schools in the Big 12 more desperate. Forces them to get on their knees for Texas and Oklahoma

3) It forces FOX to stop being stupid enough to think they have “leverage” on the Big 12
First ones at the table negotiating TV rights

I'm afraid that CUSA is the only spot we could land in.
If it is, then WVU only has itself to blame.

Instead of addressing the problem years ago of being a "party school" with bad academics who let anyone in with a breath and a checkbook, the school has done little to nothing. A better academic ranking would have made the school more likely to land in a more advantageous conference the last go-round. It's going to hurt this go-round if worst comes to worst.

Wow! That would be a complete death blow to the Big12. If that went down I’m thinking Kansas would be the pick with ND committing to 6 ACC games per year. My hope would be for WVU to some day get into ACC but thinking their poor academic reputation keeps them out. If that goes down the Big Ten probably takes a run at Texas, ND and UVA. The next couple of years should be interesting.

And that's the misguided notion out there, WVU has good academics.

Universities shouldn’t even care about academics/GPA’s/placements anymore since grades just represent systemic racism….

USNews has us ranked at #241.

I attended WVU as well as Vanderbilt, UNC-Chapel Hill and New York University and my education at WVU was comparable quality-wise to those. But the bottom line is our ranking sucks in large part because we don't rely on a feeder school system, like UNC does, as much as we should. This means marginal students get admitted and washed out of our flagship school rather than a feeder.

Now you can gripe all you want about how unfair or inaccurate the ranking system is, but the rankings are what they are, prospective students and employers rely on them, and Gee and the WV legislature ought to be doing what they can to move us up rather than down the rankings.

It's because of the arrogance and the continuous of the same schools' graduates that control these things. You know that as well as everyone else.

- ESPN can further weaken their competition in FOX Sports by having the two top Big 12 schools move to the SEC. By doing so ESPN adds TX and OU content to the new ESPN/SEC tv deal and the SEC Network which is operated by ESPN.

- ACC schools are not in play for realignment. The 14 member schools signed a grant of media rites beginning in 2019 and ending in 2039.

It’s not a troll thread just because you say it. There was a supporting report. Why would anyone believe your take over another take. Plus it’s content that is worth discussing.

Disagree
According to Finebaum that is the leverage but for WVU there could be hope that the SEC is leverage with FOX.
Been mentioned on here already but FOX didn’t want to renegotiate because they thought they had an advantage

The biased ******** in US news and world report is not an accurate rating. An institution should be fairly judged by the success of its graduates. Let's see 25 Rhodes Scholars 42 Goldwater Scholars, one of the best Forensic Science Depts and the only school in the US that is partnered with the FBI. Neurology dept. is nationally ranked and last but not least 15 of current and previous fortune 500 CEO's Owens Corning, Oracle, and Fidelity Investments to name a few.

Perception is based upon speculation and reality is based upon facts. I just listed a few above.

But these things aren't what other schools will consider because every school can claim the same thing (successful graduates, Rhodes/Goldwater/Fulbright Scholars, nationally ranked departments, and CEO's of major businesses, etc.).

They don't look at the outliers, they look at the average student and what the USNWR states. Of course a lot of it is biased and not objectively based. But, it is one standard by which they will go by. It is the perception and thus WVU's reality. If it comes down to a choice between two schools, a conference could likely choose the one with better academics. If it does, WVU will be left out.

Facts don't matter in today's world, only beliefs and feelings.

Very well could be the case, but would be a very damaging negotiation move on the part of TX and OU while still remaining part of a conference you threatened to leave and most likely undermine. Even if it results in more money from FOX for the entire Big 12 membership the relationship is heavily damaged in my opinion.

I get what you’re saying and I’ve run into a lot of talented WVU grads but do actually believe the reason WVU has never gotten an ACC invite has to do with anything other than academics? There is a negative national perception of both West Virginia and WVU. Nothing that hasn’t been discussed for decades.

Other schools don’t have much of a choice.

This is why I continued to say that the most important thing for WVU was to use this platform to improve and look like one of the biggest and brightest fruits on the tree

Academics says no B1G.
ACC says no since 1953.

In 53 the excuse was the traveling to Morgantown from Carolina. This was before the interstate freeways were built and one had to rely on the 2 lane hwys. I remember meeting an older alum from Princeton and he said it took 6 hours to get to Morgantown back in the day. Now it takes 3.5 hours.

I’m honestly surprised that Texas and Oklahoma did anything together.
That's the part that leads me to be a little suspect here. Not to mention, some current SEC teams aren't in favor of Texas being able to join, teams like A&M & Missourri, and possibly Arkansas as well. A&M wants the state of Texas all to their selves when it comes to the SEC, primarily for recruiting purposes. I can understand their reasoning, but feel they're coming across as crybabies, particularly when this hasn't become official yet. Since they cried though, it kind of gives me cause to think maybe something is in the works. Either way, if both leave, they're leaving the other eight teams in a bad spot. I'm just not sure there's enough landing spots for all eight teams though. I guess they could always bring in a Houston, UCF, Cinci, Boise, but then you're watering down the conference. WVU should and will look after their own best interest though, and I believe they'll land somewhere, but hard to tell where. As somebody else stated, college football is really starting to circle the drain, and if they're not careful, they'll end up in the *******, and lose many fans along the way. Big money is the root cause of problems here.

We will find out
There are people saying this has been in the works for awhile.
Some of the scheduling was suspect especially for Georgia and Florida
You remove the Texas and OU OOC games from Florida their schedules becomes a lot easier
Do you really think Georgia was going to play Texas/Clemson and then a full SEC schedule

So this means that talks were happening for the last 3 years
At the point where A&M had no choice but to leak it to the media. It did come from an A&M reporter at the Houston Chronicle

On a lighter note, if this is announced, you can bet your *** the new horns down penalty will be called a few dozen times per game when the Horns are playing any of the remaining 8 schools.
