But these things aren't what other schools will consider because every school can claim the same thing (successful graduates, Rhodes/Goldwater/Fulbright Scholars, nationally ranked departments, and CEO's of major businesses, etc.).

They don't look at the outliers, they look at the average student and what the USNWR states. Of course a lot of it is biased and not objectively based. But, it is one standard by which they will go by. It is the perception and thus WVU's reality. If it comes down to a choice between two schools, a conference could likely choose the one with better academics. If it does, WVU will be left out.
ACC will choose for athletics as they have their pompous academic schools. They need something to keep in line to stay a float. They've hooked to Notre Dame`s tail coats praying they join full time. Big East tried to do the same but failed. Will the ACC succeed at it? Depends on the media pressure.

Maybe.
If WVU fans pony up the money and buy espn+ this year

This is very important and could help even if the Big 12 folds
Because they track what games are watched. At least what schools
ESPN nerds have a value for each university and their fanbase.

Sad thing is the value for a lot of these schools isn’t much.

Because they don’t get the direction college sports is heading

Maybe you should leave the board now. Head on over to the Arkansas boards.

I'm thinking Townes will reappear as a Kansas fan. Maybe a handle like RockDorkJayDork.

After the SEC tells them thanks, but no thanks, maybe Texas and Oklahoma will end up in the B1G, and we'll get to see Texas football playing November games in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

They would go to the ACC…

ACC was the key here. How weird would it have been for the SEC if Texas/OU pumped up GA Tech. The school being located in the same city the SEC holds their football championship game

Texas A&M is now King of Texas, so they hold the cards as to where Texas can and cannot go.

Even Jimbo called them out yesterday.

The networks are making this decision. I don't know what metrics they are using but they are driving the bus....they control the wallet.

Academics, AAU, rivalries, ect....red-herrings.

SEC is disgusting. Ruining college sports. Trying to create their own Super Conference and leaving the rest of us out
At least keep a couple spots open for schools who earned it
How the hell is Ole Miss, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and South Carolina getting grandfathered into a super conference.
WVU would go 3-1 or 4-0 against those schools majority of years

ACC is fine. Big East was failed by Providence. WVU will land in a good spot when everything shakes out.
