SEC guys just picked us to win 7 on UK preview.

But picked us to lose to Vandy and upset Ga. And one of them said wed beat Fl too.

Clint Stoerner bullish on UK, picked us over Vandy as well but was outvoted. Florida pick was in the context of "if there is a surprise, what game would it be?" As though picking us over Georgia isn't a surprise...? I think these previews are designed to put a positive spin on each team and feed the preseason frenzy about what could be. Have to admit, though, I could feel myself getting sucked in.

7 is my over/under for the year as well. I love the fact, people who actually know SEC Football are picking us to win 7 this year. They actually know what they are talking about.

7 being the over/under is not a good number. There are not 7 definite wins on this schedule. Here would be my thought:

3 definite USM, NM and AP
3 should be USC, Vandy and Mizzo
2 could be Miss St. and UF
4 long shots Bama, UT, UGA and UL

With that the over/under number of best fit would be a 5 or 6....so let's say 5.5 due to how close we have been to bowling the last two years. Until you prove it....you should get no benefit of the doubt.

Can' t disagree but they did have some positive points. Best rb duo in east, best receiver core...if drew can be servicable, and the D can avoid getting trounced, we c ok uld make some noise.

You're right about that. Last year I forget which one picked us to win certain games when he reviewed us, but when he reviewed those same teams, he picked them to beat us! Talk about pandering - but I'll take any positive football media I can get. It helps image and recruiting.

If we show out this year and get to seven wins the prognostications next year will be through the roof. Most of the prognostications are based on performance the previous year. Until we prove it they will continue to rank us low.

Without putting on my "Louisville Doesn't Exist" glasses, I still think they are at least one tier too high in your totem pole - I would definitely put them in the "could be" and potentially, depending on how the season plays out, in the "should be" by the end of the year.

I would also move USM into the "should be" level.

Depending on their level of QB play, UF may move up a tier - glad we get them early.

First two games will tell the tale on this season. Both winnable and both games we've struggled closing out in the past couple years.

My expectations:
  • put a whooping on SM to make a statement
  • keep it close with Florida for a chance to win it in the 4th

A 2-0 start could lead to a 5-1 start again. With a little luck we've got a bowl bid secured in mid October.

We were up 22-0 on UL but collapse in the 2nd half because we didn't prepare for Jackson to come in. (DJ Eliot's fault)

Auburn, we had the ball in the last minutes of the game but Shannon Dawson's play calling is horrific and Towles panicked.

Vanderbilt...Barker's first game as a starter and only lose by 4 at an SEC venue. I honestly believe the team was distracted at this point. We all know what was going on at the time of the season. If we come into Memorial Stadium prepared we win. I think we beat Vandy this year. Vandy has no offense outside of their RB (Webb)

This rainbow & sunshine stuff all sounds great. But at the end of this football season we will all still look a little like this...

But NEXT year is our year. Book it.

If USM is in the should be level then we "should be" in for a long season lol. We cannot lose or even come close to losing to these types of teams. Their record against SEC opponents is horrid and they are outscored in an even more horrid fashion. If this game isn't a 2Td+ victory then I will be concerned.

While lots of writers out there are saying we'll only win 3-5 games it's nice some see at least the potential to do better. I've seen a number of people who seem to think Georgia will be beatable this year in Lexington, but with the way they have just pounded us in recent years I'm skeptical. I think we're a lot more likely to beat Vandy. I'd love to beat both. As for beating Florida after 29 years I'll believe it when it happens. It sure would send this board and BBN into a frenzy if we could start 2-0 and go into the Alabama game undefeated. OK, back to reality. :weary:

The "problem" with conference networks, when not televising actual events, are their attempts to impersonate credible sports analysts. There is almost always a certain "optimistic spin" for even the weakest teams. But that's OK, after all, it is a conference telecast representing all teams in the conference. There will always be a lean toward optimism over pessimism (and often reality). To expect anything less is naive; you simply have to separate the wheat from the chaff when you listen to these "analysts".

FWIW, the real analysts are centered in Las Vegas or otherwise crouched over a spreadsheet of stats looking for data to beat the guys in Vegas. The South Point O/U win total for UK is 5 (with even vigorish). 5Dimes the same. Personally, I really like the OVER here (but I don't like the idea of tying up your money until the last game of the season). Practically all of the pre-season math has the Cats winning 5 this year but I just can't help but think they find that 6th win somewhere. Don't ask me where. But like many I see 7 potentially winnable games so 6 seems realistic. If everything goes right they might get 7 but very few teams have a season where "everything goes right". There is usually a head scratcher in there.

Peace

Towles threw for 359 yards and hit on 61.4 % of his passes in that game. The special teams play was an abomination. If special teams play continues this year like it's been for the past several years it's going to be a long year.

I'm sure Drew would love to hear, "We're gonna be ranked 114 in starting field position", good luck kid.

Thank god we have you here to educate us each and every week on how oddsmakers work and why any optimism (7 wins!?!) is simply foolish.

Agree 100%

I think 6 wins is tops....I think we get 6 wins.

I also think we will have 5 wins AGAIN going into the UL game, last of the season.
