go to pool play, like the ACC does. Still have 12 teams playing in the tourney, 4 pools of 3 teams, 3 games a day. Pool A plays Tues. Pool B plays Wed. etc. Each of the 12 teams plays 2 games, and each pool winner plays a 3rd, for the semi-finals, then the ACC title.
Under the current SEC format, the 2 finalist would/could play 5 games. Then fly or bus back home for selection Monday with very tired players and a pitching staff somewhat depleted.

That's actually not a bad format. Might even boost attendance a bit if all teams were guaranteed 2 games.

If I recall if all teams in a pod go 1-1 think the highest rpi team would advance.

It is essentially an exhibition. They could do away with it and only LSU and Mississippi fans would care.

What the SEC really needs to do is move away from divisions in both football and baseball.

I like the format as well. Also, I'd like to see the tournament moved to Nashville at least on a rotating basis. I believe that would help attendance as well. They've got a really nice AAA ballpark in town now.

I might actually attempt to plan a trip if that was the case. I have absolutely no desire to travel to Hoover, AL.

That was suppose to happen a couple of years ago, but I guess the deep southern schools must have flexed their muscle and put a stop to it. It just made too much sense

I believe the SEC winner and runner-up go into the NCAA Regionals at a dis-advantage because of exhausting their pitching staffs in trying to win a meaningless tournament. When you have ti rely on your mid-week starters in trying to win your tournament it is just not a good format for everyone.

I don't like the idea of moving it to Nashville. I like it being somewhat neutral and I like that it's basically a permanent type destination. I think it waters down the significance a little when the title game moves. It's unique and awesome that generations of baseball players have dreamed of going to Omaha and for the SEC tournament, going to or winning in Hoover.

Of the ten teams that have played in the finals of the SEC baseball tournament under the existing format, seven have made a Super and four have made the CWS. Pretty good results.

In those five years, the SEC has sent 12 teams to the CWS.

Birmingham Alabama is neutral more so than Nashville?
