On paper means nothing. The QB has to throw it and the WR,s have to catch it. Period
Some of it has to do with projecting their improvement from last year. In the context of being true sophomores in the SEC Juice and Baker were impressive last year even with the drops. Badet and Timmons have both been in the program for 3 years now. All of our top pass catchers from a year ago are back and we add some talented redshirt freshmen and a freak of a JUCO in Ross. I think our ranking is pretty accurate and if Barker has a breakout year the receivers may outperform a couple of the groups ranked ahead of them (mainly LSU and Ark who either don't throw much or don't have a QB)I'm a little surprised they were ranked that high. We have talent to be sure but most of our guys have displayed too many drops and inconsistent routes over their time here. It'll improve for sure but I probably wouldn't have ranked them this high just yet.
Although UK doesn't have a Dural or Dupre on their roster, I'd argue that they have more depth than LSU. They've been hit hard in the offseason with transfers, and outside of Dural and Dupre they really have no other WR's that are proven. Conrad is also far better than anyone that LSU can trot out at TE. Stoops and his staff have done a great job at evaluating the skill positions and loading up.The debate is certainly there about our receiving corps being better than LSU and Arkansas. At any rate, we have some top notch skill players on both sides of the ball.
