The biggest SEC takeaways from Week 1 of 2025 - Saturday Down South
It was virtually inevitable, and I was almost reluctant to qualify it with "virtually." I don't think it's because DeBoer, or whoever "the next guy" was to be, can't win a national title at Alabama. But it's probably inevitable that Alabama fans aren't going to have the patience to wait for it.The dead period between Bryant and Stallings - and the dead period between Stallings and Saban - well, they in another one.
It’s a fatal blow to those who argue that anyone can win at Bama. The dead period between Bryant and Stallings - and the dead period between Stallings and Saban - well, they in another one.
I don't know where they got captain Gump and I don't care. He's clearly not a good fit for Bama and never was. I understand no one can fill Saban's shoes but IMHO, Bama could have done much better in their hiring process. Don't know what they were thinking. It’s a fatal blow to those who argue that anyone can win at Bama.

That's science right there. Here's a telling stat. If you look at the Week 3 schedule on ESPN's website, it says tickets for our game against Vandy can be bought currently from $199. The Arkansas at Ole Miss game, for $97. South Alabama at Auburn for $75. Louisiana-Lafayette at Mizzou for $99. UTEP at Texas for $72. You get the picture.
But tickets for Wisconsin at Alabama can currently be bought from $37.
Nope. Definitely wasn't gonna be a north midwesterner / rebranded west coast guy going to the SEC (and Alabama.....and following Saban...) that kept things going close to where they were. Whole new look to that team, and to be fair maybe some of that is the portal BS. Still though....their play is nothing close to how tough, technical and unrelenting as under Saban. It was virtually inevitable, and I was almost reluctant to qualify it with "virtually." Mike Shula was part of that dead period. The dead period between Bryant and Stallings - and the dead period between Stallings and Saban - well, they in another one.

Deboer has 4 losses to unranked teams through 14 games at Bama.I am very curious about what Bama's actual NIL budget is, as it compares to others.
But yeah, this guy doesn't appear to be a fit at all.
He was an integral part.Mike Shula was part of that dead period.
Which was a big problem with Alabama last year. They were 116th in college football with 7.4 penalties/game. Eight penalties against FSU is right on track to continue that trend. There's no discipline.
We only have 2 games to go by, but except for the scripted first series against VT, I'm not impressed. We may win 8 or 9 games but it will be because of Sellers talent not the reputed offensive genius on the sideline. He was an integral part.
He isn't a reputed genius, merely a flawed journeyman. We only have 2 games to go by, but except for the scripted first series against VT, I'm not impressed. We may win 8 or 9 games but it will be because of Sellers talent not the reputed offensive genius on the sideline.
I hope I am very wrong.
He took the Panthers to the SB as OC with Cam Newton at QB. That is why people thought he would be great with Sellers. He isn't a reputed genius, merely a flawed journeyman.
Cam Newton didn't need Shula to win a national championship. I doubt Shula was the reason they reached a SB. Who's to say they wouldn't have actually won it all with a different coach? He took the Panthers to the SB as OC with Cam Newton at QB. That is why people thought he would be great with Sellers.
Flash in the pan mainly due to the creativity of the quarterback - which will have to be the case now.He took the Panthers to the SB as OC with Cam Newton at QB. That is why people thought he would be great with Sellers.
I read his Wikipedia resume and there were a couple of bright moments. And I know that coaches get fired. But seems like he was fired from every job he's ever had. Some could barely wait for him to be gone. These are the kind of coaches Shane can get. His Best Man, Loggains, and this guy. Personally I never had a problem with that guy at TCU.Flash in the pan mainly due to the creativity of the quarterback - which will have to be the case now.
Me, either. He exudes offense.I read his Wikipedia resume and there were a couple of bright moments. And I know that coaches get fired. But seems like he was fired from every job he's ever had. You left out Georgia at Tennessee. $334Here's a telling stat. If you look at the Week 3 schedule on ESPN's website, it says tickets for our game against Vandy can be bought currently from $199.
