Very reminiscent of Dayton at the UC two years ago. All people remember in March is the win ...

I’m sorry but Ash is just not a D-1 player. Please play Greer. We are going to get roasted in the big ten unless we can handle the ball better. That second half is brutal. We need one of our true freshmen to step up. It may be a long season
Greer needs to start if Ash is still hurt. Turner is killing us.

Turner is a small forward. Not a guard. I told you guys two months ago that we need Ash to have a chance to place top five in the BT! We need to start Greer over Turner until Ash is healthy.

Why did Collins abandon Kopp and Nance? They were not the turnover machines in the second half and both played really well in the first. What was up with that especially Kopp when Gaines couldn’t for the life of him touch the ball without giving it to the other team.

I can only surmise that he wants to set up a go to rotation. Io the best group defensively.

I can see that, but I don’t think we lose much defensively with Kopp. Kid brings it. Hopefully he’s just breaking him in, because he needs more court time.

Kopp did not have one of his better nights, imo. He was beaten defensively. A lot.

Outscored 41-17 in the last 16 minutes of the game

Outscored them 50-20 in the first 24 minutes.

There are 40 minutes in a game. Whoever has the most points at the end of the full 40 minutes is declared the winner.

Not surprised you’re focused on the last 16 minutes only.

How....was he beat by his man off the dribble....before that with positioning...easily rubbed off....wanted to watch him more closely but I've been watching Law and AJ, and Kopp is not in very long

Gaines was defending Alvarado, who caught fire in the second half, because Law was getting gassed chasing the quick little guy around. Law is a great defender but he is sort of our point forward and we need his offense. This is a big dilemma for the team going forward, I think.

So was Gaines and he offers nothing on offense.

I thought he had a presence on defense. Collins left him in there much of the last 10 mins. or so.

His decision making on offense is suspect. One play he had the ball top-right of the circle and Law was clearly asking for it. He looked away from Law, put the ball on the floor and immediately turned it over. Painful.

Great observation. What I dig about this squad is that Turner/Taylor/Law/Gaines/Pardon have the physical tools to be tough defenders, and more importantly - have the mentality/attitude to commit to it. For real, I see this team as possibly the best defensive unit in recent memory. However, to your point, this takes a lot of focus and energy. And with an offensive set that requires motion and hard cuts, we may see the lag on that end.

Kopp and Nance have the physical tools - but at this point, they haven't shown that they can be "plus" on the defensive end so they're not gonna get crunchtime minutes. In our wins over Top 100ish teams (Utah/GT) they averaged 0.89 Points per possession. That means an average offense has a chance to win (and given the team's propensity to get to the FT line, and be accurate and with Law/Pardon/Taylor as effective scorers), it's possible. I sense that Collins sees defense as the best path to victory. Grit and Grind comes to Evanston, y'all.

Ash is one guy who shouldn't be in the 8 or 9 man rotation and Greer should be. seems like a lot of you think Gaines is a very good defender but I just don't see it.

Not sure if serious. Gaines is one of the best defenders on the team. When Law needed a break guarding Alvarado, guess who got the assignment?

Beat by his man on the dribble, got caught out of position, silly fouls, etc. He'll learn, he's only been out there a few games...

I really think Mike only sees what he wants to see. You cannot have a critical conversation with him about NU sports. In his eyes, they are perfect and the score keepers are clearly screwing up.

Lol my statement was actually a croticism of the defensive play of Kopp, try to keep up. Responding to all of my posts now, I see, whether directed to you or not. Is this because I am now a membber of the PKK club?

I agree that Gaines makes some bad decisions offensively and we saw the gamut in the first half.

Most of his teammates could greatly benefit from watching his defense, especially his footwork and body positioning. I hope he gets better court vision for his offense because we will likely see a lot of him at the end of right games, especially when Vic is out of gas or needs high energy on the offensive end.

I'll watch more closely. My sense has been that he's always in the right position. Be interesting to see how officials treat his physical play during conference.

I am an outlier in respect to two NU players and their defense. I am of the mind that Falzon is effective and solid...and I feel the same about Kopp. I literally do not see them play as others here describe.

Um, not responding to all posts. Not even reading all threads, let alone all posts. If I’m in your head, turn off the lights. I’m afraid of the dark and will run away.

Dude, I .made three posts in the vasketball board, and you responded to all three even though they all weren't even responses to you (the Kopp post was a response to Willy, for example).

You didn’t say your posts. You just said posts, implying all posts.
