What a half! NU came out smoking, building a 10-0 lead after the tip, and never really let up. Their lead got as high as 15 and they are up 40-26 at the half.

The Cats shot 60% from the floor, all seven players who got minutes scored and they hold an 18-2 edge in points in the paint. Maryland, meanwhile, is shooting 24% as they are settling for a lot of jumpers. Just one of their six first-half baskets was a 2-pointer.

Kopp leads NU with 11, while Nance has 9.

It’s inevitable Maryland will make a run at some point. And we probably won’t be as red hot. Eager to see how our young guys respond and how much composure they show.

Yes we need to weather this storm. Coachspeak calls this "responding" to adversity, and these young Cats need to learn how to do this.

Too bad half time came. NU will have to get back to that level of play to gang on to this one.

Well, there’s the run.

Key now is to not get psyched out. Let’s get a high-percentage shot. Would love a 5-footer for Nance. He was doing well with those in the first half.

I'm getting pretty sick of these refs giving Maryland every ticky tack call and every fight for position call.

Reviewing a flagrant on Boo. Looked like a face shot, but slow mo says no. We’ll see how the refs feel about hooking up the Terps a little more.

Every call. Such BS. Same exact damn play as the first half and they call the flagrant on us.

Ok.... they fixed it. Still.. their instinct is to punish Northwestern.

It’s tempting to blame the refs. But we gotta be smarter on defense. 8 fouls in 8 minutes.

Agree with this. Need to play better defense. Certainly a call or two where the refs could have swallowed their whistles but gotta stop them from just plowing into us in the paint.

Not feeling very optimistic. For as good as we looked in the first half, we look like crap the second half. On both ends.

Quite the turnaround in the second half. It's not just the fouls they are playing much better than we are. At least we had one good half.

Did the first half fatigue us?? Our energy is pathetic. No defense. No rebounding. I guess we just have to settle for another learning experience.

Probably better they went up with 9 minutes to go. We might still be able to reset. I’m guessing if it happened with 5 to go we’d definitely fall apart.

There is a lot of time left. But we need to have a momentum turning play or two. And get defensive stops. They are scoring way too easily.

Two differences I see, second half Terps driving into traffic getting a lot of free throws and Terps open threes are falling.

but a lot of it came from the line.

also cats are missing shots they were making. Not sure the Terps d is not much better.

Well, it didn't take very long to lose that 14-point halftime lead, did it?

I wonder what Kopps shooting percentage is first half vs second half. I would guess it is much better in the first half he seems to lose it in the second half

No body can score in the crunch besides Spencer. Where the hell are Kopp and Nance??
