He’s 0-11 tonight. He’s played mediocre defense. He’s made many poor decisions with the basketball. All the while we have a guy like Ty Berry on the bench who can shoot and hustle on D.
Do you believe that ANY coach in the country would play Berry over Kopp? I like Berry but Kopp (despite being 0-11) is an elite shooter. He pulls defenders away from the paint and opens up the floor. Berry does not do that.

I think it was Audige who tried to foul
Buie blitzed the ballhandler before the second three, providing help D. I think he even hit the passer on the arm but the ball was out and the next guy’s shot was going up so the refs let it go.

So with 2:30 left in the game, trailing 55-54, Collins FINALLY puts Young and Nance on the floor at the same time. (Everybody knows this is absolutely essential)

What happens?

Maryland scores zero points and gets zero offensive rebounds.
Young grabs 3 rebounds and scores 4 points.

A big part of winning is putting the right guys on the court. Collins specializes in putting the wrong guys on the court.

Greer played 12 excellent minutes, with 4 points, 4 assists, a rebound, a steal and no turnovers. He needs to be playing a lot more. Young should have had about 5 assists, getting guys wide open looks and watching them miss the shots. Still he only played 17 minutes. Why would a coach help the opponent by restricting Young's playing time?

Beran and Kopp did not play well again. They need to play less. Beran no more than 10 minutes unless he's scoring. Those reclaimed minutes have to go to YOUNG. It is glaringly obvious.

Our best team is Young and Nance, with Audige and Greer and then one of the other guys, probably Kopp, maybe Buie, but definitely not Beran. I've been saying that since January. Collins has never played Kopp with those other 4. Not once.

If we play this lineup we can beat most teams in the league. Defensively you use a lot of zone with Young and Nance under the basket and the other three around the perimeter.

I'm not counting on Collins watching the game tape and realizing the obvious.

These are good points and worthy of discussion, like because this is a message board for such discourse.

I'm really impressed with the improvement of Greer, I believe he is our best point guard. Buie in my mind is not a good point guard, but a decent 2. Next year another interesting guard tandem would be Barnhizer and Buie on the floor together.

At this point, I agree that Beran is not giving us anything. He must be a helluva a practice player, but in the recent games, he has been a liability. I still love his upside potential and I think Collins is letting him go through his growing pains in hopes of future benefit to the team, but it sure is painful for fans to watch.

Kopp is in a similar situation with Beran, but we've already seen in his career at NU what he can do, which is be our best shooter. He just needs to shake out of this shooting slump, it's affecting his play all around.

Nance is on the cusp of being a star, he has made good progress this year. And I like Young a lot too, and would love to see both Nance and Young on the floor together more.

I will be interested to see how Barnhizer adapts to the speed and athleticism of college ball. I wouldn't count out Roper. He's a very good athlete, plays against really good competition, and looks to have a pretty good handle. He and Audige would be the most athletic backcourt we have had since I can remember. They have the potential to be good offensively and defensively. Simmons is a great athlete as well but he is very skinny, his release is a little slow and it doesn't look like he plays against the best competition. But his athleticism may get him minutes. He is very quick and will have the best hops on the team.

You can hide your head in the sand, thats your choice, but this team is being badly undermined by a coach who doesn't know what he is doing.
I watch the games too. If you think this team as constructed right now is better than 500 in the B1G, I can’t help. Red Auerbach would have a challenge with that.

I think if we play Young and Nance most of the game together, play Greer most of the time at point, play Audige most of the time, give Buie about 20 minutes, then use Kopp, Beran, Gaines and Berry depending on the matchups, fouls and game situations, we are better than Minnesota, Rutgers, Indiana, Penn State, Nebraska and maybe Maryland. Let's say we beat PSU and Nebraska twice. It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect a split with Purdue, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Minnesota and Michigan State. So call that 6 wins and 8 losses. Maybe we win one of 8 against Illinois, Michigan, Iowa and Ohio State.

If we played everybody twice, we'd probably win 10-11 games and lose 15-16. We would then have beaten about 9 of our 13 opponents, which is easily "beating most of the teams in the league."

Of course, Nicholson should be a solid backup for Young and Nance, as opposed to rotting on the bench. That should go without saying...

Yes, Ryan Greer and Nicholson playing more would have turned our season around. LOL

Maybe you don't read so well. Playing Ryan Young and Pete Nance toegther and Ryan Greer at point would absolutely have worked better than what Collins did night after night.

You don't see it. Thats not my problem.
