Minnesota used a heavy dose of Daniel Oturu (13 points, 8 rebounds) and some good three-point shooting to open up a commanding 44-28 halftime lead.

Oturu is just a man among boys, with a couple big dunks, a 3-pointer and an emphatic block of Buie. The Gophers hit 7 of 14 3s, while NU hit just 2-11.

Buie has 7 to lead NU, while Kopp and Young have 6 each.

Minnesota is a game under .500 and just 6-9 in the Big Ten, but I was struck in the first half just how much more athletic they are than NU.

Spencer looks frustrated. Young getting almost to the basket, but keeps shooting a step too far out. Cats seem out of step with each other, gonna have to get that team thing going or this games going to get a lot worse.

MN has cooled off. And will have periods of cooling off with as many minutes their main players are on the floor.

For now, we’re not taking advantage to close the gap.
