Another classic in game post from TheC. Add it to the archives!!!
I didn't think we were going to come back. 25-0 runs don't grow on trees. A nice response by the guys. But as corbi posted above, our team is not good enough to not play 100% all out on the defensive end. We weren't doing that until the last 9 or so minutes of the game. DePaul looked much more well-rounded than us on the offensive end for much of that game.

Take a look at the scoreboard. They freeze it after 40 minutes. If they froze it after 30 they've changed the rules.

We won! At least TRY to act happy.

Wrong again. Shot 35.5%, compared with the season average of 32.8%.

Not wrong again... we were terrible with the most of the game except for a 5 or 6 minute stretch. I stand by what I said. Also DePaul for whatever reason stopped driving and dishing during that stretch. Dumb coaching on their part. We got hot luckily enough during that period.

You can't tell me you were confident AJ was going to start draining 3's out of nowhere after the way he's shot this year. Gimme a break. We won that's great but we got realllllllly lucky.

I'm very happy to see the Cats win! However, I'm concerned about the lesson learned today, that they can get away with "pacing" themselves for the first 30 minutes of the game, then turn it on and still win in the end despite being down 15.

In 2016, we had nice runs as well, but it was to pull ahead of the opponent early in the game rather than come back from far behind (although we did do that once or twice too). Can we get back to that form of basketball? Start with max effort on D and try to grab control of the game early.

We took some punches. I'd love to have not taken any. But on the other hand we staggered a bit but didn't quit. The fight wasn't over yet. Then we threw and connected with some haymakers ourselves. Guess who was still standing when the fight WAS over?

I'm not sure what your point is. We only have to play hard the last 10 minutes? That may work against DePaul, but not against many BIG teams. Let's not kid ourselves... other than that incredible stretch of about 5 minutes, we did not play well today.

I can’t see Collins hanging his hat on that. He knows we dodged a bullet, but good teams sometimes do that.

Two years in a row we’ve made mad comebacks against DePaul!

This was my first extended view of NU’s team this year. This offense needs more ball penetration, either via the dribble or the pass. Show me an offense where the ball spends most of its time outside the three point line and I’ll show you a losing team. That part of the game will never change.

To my untrained eye, the most important factor was an obvious increase in defensive intensity coming out of halftime. Making stops on the defensive end helps the team's aggressiveness and confidence on the offensive end. I don't see this team winning many shoot-outs this year. Its success will depend on strong defense.

Live and die by the 3 but fortunately we lived by it. Have to agree with corbi that we need someone on this team, preferably several, that can drive to the basket penetrate and dish back out if they have to. Fantastic run to win this game fun to watch.

I think we have a new genius on the board.

Aside from all the baskets we scored, we didn't make a shot.

DePaul might've stopped driving because... maybe we took it away from them? Noooo, can't be!

When AJ wasn't making shots, that had nothing to do with bad luck, but when he starts making them, it's all good luck.

What else?

DePaul isn’t very good and For most of the game DePaul out hustled and out executed NU. Don’t be fooled by NU’s incredible hot streak from the 3 point line. If NU doesn’t learn to play hard the entire game on the defensive end, if they don’t Figure out a way to get ball penetration on offense and if they don’t figure out a way to take better care of the basketball, NU will have a very long Big Ten season. This team desperately needs a point guard and floor general based on what I saw today.

Except they scored less points then NU!

Totally agree, I missed the game today due to a food drive but I was at the Michigan game. Every time Michigan went on a run the Cats looked like they were playing in Quicksand. They were able to get back in the game, but then jumped back into the sand box. Wash, rinse and repeat throughout the game. During these runs they show talent enough to hang with anyone. They need to play more consistently.

DePaul has sucked it in to stop Pardon. Gambled cats could not make threes. Almost worked.

Thank God I don’t post during the game. There are some silly comments like usual here. Complain, complain, complain. You would think there is no talent on this team. Games are 40 minutes, seasons are approximately 30 games, it isn’t going to be roses for a program like NU for all of them.

Is being emotionally involved in the game such a crime? Yes, I post how I'm feeling at the time I'm feeling it. I'd rather live that way than bottle up all emotions and wait for some possible time in the future to Express myself. Apologies for living in the moment.

But if you must, please do continue to tell me and others how to be fans.

No, a game thread will understandably be more of a roller coaster than a post game thread. But it's not that hard to remember mid game that the game isn't over, that games often include bad stretches and good stretches, and that teams can go on and surrender scoring runs. Until the game is actually over. If we usually play good defense, chances are we'll figure some things out and end up not collapsing defensively over a whole game. At least on average.

We didn't look very good for a while. And for a while we also looked like a top 5 team. Neither stretch defined the whole game.
