Today's math lesson: Nick Ward + Foul Trouble + Huge MSU Rebounding Edge + 70% shooting = ROUT

There wasn't much to like in that first half -- and with Law, Pardon and Turner saddled with three fouls apiece, it might get worse in the second.

Ward is just killing them inside, with 21 points on 9-14 shooting. The Spartans have 33 points in the paint and a 22-9 rebounding edge. Oh, and they're shooting 70 percent from the floor overall.

Look, MSU is tough any night. But when they're clicking like they are tonight, you can forget it. NU ran into a buzzsaw.

MSU looking every bit the top 10 team they are. Cats started out strong, but with no D or rebounding, it is a runaway for Sparty. Must be tough for them coming off all those rigorous NCAA penalties for the reprehensible actions in and around their athletic program.

thankfully, we only play these guys once. Bad matchups on the inside but our wing matchups were good. Just couldnt get any productivity on the wings. Whatever, we need better defense down low. Looking too much like last year. We are now in must win mode at this point. Gotta rip off 4 or 5 wins in a row now to have a chance for the NIT

Have to admit, here in the second half, the refs are doing almost everything they can to keep Cats in this game. Now beyond Sparty just playing at their very best, the Cats have totally fallen apart. Ugh.

Benson wide open down the lane, fails to leave the ground and attack the basket. I want so much from and for him, but he just can't find it for some reason. He should take a cue from the MSU bigs... they are strong to the basket.

MSU flying up the court after every made or missed basket by the Cats is just amazing to watch. They are so quick with the ball, identifying the right man, and finishing. They make it look really easy.

So, how come once MSU figured out that Ward inside was working they kept going back to it over and over. Yet, on our side, we successfully get Turner on the block against their point guard and he scores two quick baskets. Then, just because he missed one time, we never go back to it. They should have run that damn play every single time down until MSU adjusted. Turner didn't even try to get the block anymore after the first few possessions. I don't get it.
