Question about second-round game sites. How is the home team exactly determined? The IHSA website says that the team that has had fewer home games during the current playoff series is the host. I know if two teams have hosted the same amount of games, the higher seed gets the home game. But in recent years, I've seen lower-seeded teams host second-round games. What exactly gives? Is it based on the playoffs only? Or is the regular season factored in?

Playoffs only.
Lower seeded team could host second round if they didn’t host round one and the higher seeded team did.

OPRF will be at Brother Rice next week because both were home and Rice is better seed. If by some crazy chance Zion beat Rice... OPRF would have to go to Zion because they haven’t had a home game yet.

They look at how many home games each team has hosted. Whoever has hosted the least hosts. If there's a tie, higher seed hosts.

As a result, first round is always hosted by higher seed since everyone hasn't hosted any. Week 2, if both teams have hosted, tie goes to higher seed. If one team hasn't hosted, they get to host. Weeks 3 and 4 the process repeats.
