Selfish Players

If Pete Marovich were playing today averaging over 40+ ppg would be be considered Selfish? What about Calvin Murphy?

What about our own Bobby LLoyd?

Are there any Selfish players in the NCAA today? Who?

Personally, I'd like to see a player lite up the opposition...and don't let up till the clock hits: 0!

I'm a little tired of the expression "he's very unselfish" ...especially after a bad extra pass. I'd rather see a shot that goes in by a ball hog,,,than another unforced selfless error.

Well made point. On nights when Geo starts out hot I don't think it is selfish for us to find him and for him to shoot. You want your "shooters" to take the majority of the shots, just not to force their shots.

The unselfish action is the one that does the most to help your team win. If you are the most efficient scorer on the team, often that action will be to shoot.

Sometimes the best thing to do for the team is to shoot the ball….. it doesn’t matter if it’s only a few seconds Into the shot clock. Passing up an open good shot puts the pressure on your teammate to catch the pass then shoot or make a move … also allows the D to recover and get back into proper space

I like teams that pass the ball, but players who can score are a lot of fun to watch. My take is that I don't mind players taking a lot of shots - as long as it's within the offensive flow.

Selfish is when a player consistently does things to the detriment of the team in an effort to benefit themselves. As noted, scoring points while taking good shots is not being selfish.
To me a good test is when said player has had a good outing and another player are in the same spot to score an easy basket. Does he/she pass there.

Some of our off the bench players are absolute shoot first, which really has stunted their development. A hot hand is something totally different than a player who looks to shoot first and not move within the flow of the offense. It does take time, and either that step comes or it doesnt.

Harper is considered the best offensive threat .As such he should take at least 12-15 shots a game and that isn't being selfish but rather the best starategy to win games.
