Earlier this summer, I mentioned that this season would rely on whether Shula would develop Sellers' skills at QB. This game was a classic example of how badly Shula has failed.

The first play of the game, going under center with a new center in one of the most hostile environment in the SEC was just plain stupid. The announcers were incredulous.

Then just watching the game, Sellers has not improved as a passer nor in his decision making. He gets a somewhat of a pass given how bad the OL is - like the play where the center turned AWAY from the guy right in front of him to block no one. By the end of the 2nd quarter, it was clear Sellers was rattled. He started just chucking the ball instead of making decisions. He has some of the best receivers in the SEC and he can't even get them the ball.

So my question is, Where is the development? And I'll also ask again, what would Kiffin do with this offense? or even DeBoer?

I had to look at his stats.

1010 yards, 4 TD's, 2 INT's and a qbr of 58.5 through 6 games.

Instead of progressing, he is statistically worse than last year. (On average)

Hard to believe, but I still see some NFL teams taking him with the thought that he has physical tools, and maybe they can coach him for a change. But I think those chances are slipping rounds now.

Sellers this season looks to me like he is thinking too hard. Perhaps he is trying to remember a bunch of things that have been put into his head, but he seems to be playing tentative. Pulling up short or running out of bounds when he still had green grass in front of him, on the few pass plays where he had adequate protection he had a tendency to hold on to the ball way too long, and the two intentional grounding penalties all look like a guy who is thinking too much instead of just playing and letting his God-given abilities take over. Very similar to what Kelly said about Nussmeier before the game, Sellers just needs to be Sellers and go out and play football.

I also wonder if Sellers' vision is OK this year. Either we have a historically bad group of receivers when it comes to creating space, or Sellers isn't seeing them in time to make a throw. I don't recall him wearing the helmet visor last year, but perhaps I missed it. If that is a new addition to his uniform this year, I'd like to see how he does in a game without it.

I've seen speculation that he is playing tentative because he has a spot in a high round secured, which is possible.

He could also be hampering his play with the dreaded "i need to improve as a pocket passer" mentality.

He does seem to miss some WR's, and his running doesnt seem to be as frantic as last year.

As for the visor? I remember a vast improvement last year when he ditched the glasses. Maybe we need to ditch the visor? :)

Harbor is the only WR with experience. Jacobs is coming along, but Bennett has disappeared. The rest are true freshmen.

OL is banged up pretty good. Still, they should know their assignments.

Sellers will never play in the NFL unless he gets better coaching.

Should Sellers decide not enter the NFL draft, I wonder if he'll enter the portal?

For his own good, he should. He’ll be fortunate to survive this season, let alone another with this OL.
