Anyone think that play looked a little suspect?

It's common to have helmet-to-helmet collisions when you're unloading on a player.

This was not that.

It looked like the defender was intentionally moving in to make contact with his head.

Could be wrong though.

No. It looked like a block was yet again missed because the lineman didn’t even look for a defender and went right into a double team.

No doubt that happened.

I'm talking about the intention of the defender once we had blue sky in front of him.

If you recall, they were pretty upset about the Pavia hit in last year's game and immediately vowed revenge.

Again -- might not be the case, but it seemed like the defender made a point to strike Seller's facemask at that angle.

It doesn't matter at this point though. Just an observation.

I didn’t think that upon seeing it nor from the replays. Didn’t even realize targeting at first until the reviews. Nothing in real time, to me, appeared malicious nor vengeful. I mention the OL because on even a mild slow down of the defender Sellers isn’t hit like that.

I personally thought it was dirty. Unnecessary potshot. No need to lead with his helmet. It looked worse on replay than in real time. Sure there have been many worse vicious hits but he could have shoved him backwards instead of leading with a helmet in a collision.

Yes it was dirty and Vanderbilt probably planned that, have some no name guy go in and target sellers in the head but make it not look like it, that's what teams are going to do now to us, just hit sellers in the head and get him concussed and they win. that vandy player should be suspended

The helmet to helmet hit on Faison later on was much more blatant, as well as late and was totally ignored and not reviewed.

This review stuff is really not well handled. No wonder an ACC official resigned because of it.
The time it took to call for a review after LS laid on the field for quite a while and then to stop play in the middle of a huge pass play to Harbor is ridiculous.

Had the targeting been obvious, the buzz-in wouldn't have been delayed until the ball was being snapped on the following play.

It was subtle and it was the angle.

My understanding is that hitting another player up under the facemask with their helmet as it appeared to be is especially dangerous.

No, not in the least. And had that hit been on any skill player but he quarterback, it wouldn't even have been called targeting. It was marginal.
The worst part of that play was the delay making the call. Harbor was headed for paydirt, and if we score the game has a different complexion. (at least temporarily)

'....striking upward under the facemask can cause the head to snap back rapidly, leading to high angular acceleration of the brain inside the skull. This rapid movement is potentially the most dangerous of concussions because it causes the brain to collide with the skull, potentially damaging neural tissue."

Players are very aware of this. It's going to naturally happen on occasion.

My question was whether it was intentional as the Vandy player had ample opporunity not to strike his head at all.

If the Vandy player intended to hit Sellers hard enough to knock him out of the game, he would have hit him a LOT harder than what he did and would have launched himself. The defender basically ran into him face to face and had slowed down some. I was surprised Sellers was injured in any way when watching in real time. I didn't think it was targeting then and I don't think it was targeting now. As someone posted earlier, if the same hit had been on any other skill player, there would have been no penalty.
