Sellers offered $8 million to transfer

While that is the general rule, I would submit $cam Newton 2010. Auburn was unranked heading into that season. No $cam, no title for them. They probably never even get ranked that season. So there are surely teams out there who are a Sellers away from at least a playoff birth.
$cam was a huge part of that run but Auburn had a pretty talented D as well.

Sellers is no $cam Newton.

Per report in the The State. Of course, his father did not name the school involved.

Sellers is good. Not $8 million good, though.

This stuff is insane.

8 million is 80 years worth of pay if you make 100k a year. Most people won't see 8 million over their lifetime. Somehow a football player is worth that in college. Return on investment can be argued but just tell me how anyone is worth that to play an "amateur" sport.
This is exactly why I care less and less.
Now, with that said, I would gladly take it if I were in Sellers shoes. Its not his fault people are stupid.

After going back and reading that article I'm very dubious about the veracity of its contents, more specifically the unnamed offer of 8 million claimed by his father. 8 million is life changing money and would be considered financial recklessness to turn down such an offer.
In anticipation of a expected response, I have no idea as to the motivation from the Sellers camp as to why they made such an announcement.

I found this article and an 0n3 article saying sellers is getting 3.7 million now.

If true, someone offering him 4 million (8 over 2 years) seems like not even that big of a bump percentage wise.

As to why they announced it? To make sure we pony up this year's cash and get ready for next year's?

An OC calling another OC plays didnt have anything to do with it? Alright.
Well, somebody told him to restrain himself. He hadn't done it before. Only one thing changed offensively during that period, but take your pick of which dumb@$$ neutered him.

So Shula changing different personnel after every play wasn’t also different from the regular season? Alrighty.

Either it was the play calling itself or they got into his head before the game and spooked him from running. For one reason or another, he was very obviously reluctant to take off.

They've put CFB and MBB on the wrong path where it's about money and not team or the school. I'm already finding myself less interested.

It'll be interesting to see if it opens these kids up to public criticism over their play. I think it will.

The difference in Sellers' style of play was manifest. It's not even in question. That's the essential point. I'm doubting it stemmed from some revelatory dream he had.

I got excited and bought tickets for the belk bowl back whebever that was. The next day Debo announced he was sitting out.

I dont remember even watching our bowl last year; without looking it up I couldn't tell you which bowl it was. Once I saw the players that were sitting it out it became nothing more than a spring game to me. May have worked that way for Sellers as well.

I think not. Character aside (and I believe he possesses it), he was getting paid.

I guess I should add the clarification that I don't think ANY player in college is worth $4 million/year. If you're investing that much in a single college player, it would be catastrophic failure not to win the title.
If Carson Beck is worth 4 Million per year, I could see Sellers being offered that as well. Beck is a slightly better passer, but he is a couple years older and he is not a running threat from the position whatsoever. If you look back at their 2024 stats, their total yardage numbers are very similar.

Need some of these parents to start naming names. Of course, the Sellers still Lanorris' younger brother coming along so probably want to be careful not to burn NIL bridges.
Just look at the QBs that either received 4 Million or were seeking 4 Million. Beck got 4 Million from Miami. So, they are a suspect. Heard Duke offered a QB 4 Million too. Another Suspect. Tennessee's QB transferred to UCLA after seeking 4 Million from the Vols. So, are both of those programs suspects. Michigan gave a True Freshman 3 Million a Year. So, it's not to hard to narrow down the type of program throwing out this type of cash.

I concur and have mentioned a similar concern regarding the availability of his game tape. He was an unknown last season and caught a lot of folks by surprise. With his performances down the stretch last season, he has every DCs FULL attention. Teams will be scheming specifically to stop him, which wasn't so much the case last year.

And I agree with your final statement. There are reasons to be excited about him, but predictions of being a top 5 pick and such are way too premature at this point.
So, who is your Top 5. It seems like you are saying he can't be one of those picks without assessing who is really out there. Cade Klubnik? Sellers just beat him and played better down the stretch of that game than him as a Freshman. Nico? Head case that squandered a plum QB opportunity at UT over NIL money. Arch Manning? Has not played much and the rumor is that he is going back to school for the 26 season regardless of how he plays. Carson Beck? Had a down year for the expectations last year and transferred from one of the top 3-4 programs in America. So, there is usually a QB that emerges every season and Sellers is a prime prospect to do that. I don't see how that is so hard to fathom if you scan the game and know the players that are out there.

Beck is definitely not worth 4 million, I'd say he's not worth 1 million. Beck's stats in '23 were made possible by having two of the best receivers ever at UGA in Bowers and McConkey. When those two left, Beck was exposed as average at best.

Well, Miami is paying him 4 Million. Nico was trying to re-negotiate for 4 Million, but UT stuck to their guns and said we already had a deal. If Nico had held out, he probably would have gotten it. From hearing reports on NIL anywhere from 2.5-4 Million is going to be the going rate for a good QB in College Football.

Carson Beck lacks one quality the great quarterbacks have: he simply doesn't have the ability to take a team on his back and carry it to victory. I think that, in this regard, Sellers is markedly better and more valuable than Beck, if our coaches don't wind up emasculating him.

Beck signed with Miami on January 10th, almost immediately after he entered the portal, so just based on the timing, I don't think Miami would be suspect in the Sellers saga.

UGA led the nation in 31 dropped passes last year. That stat would have a very detrimental effect one any QB/offense.

They did have a lot of drops but a lot of those "drops" were passes behind the receiver or over his head. Beck relied on a lot of circus catches in '23. Beck is also a prima donna and the stories out of Athens indicate that none of his teammates were particularly sad to see him go.

If it's over one's head how are you going to drop an uncatchable ball.

It was touchable but would have required a circus catch to haul in. Point is, Beck doesn't throw an easy to catch in stride ball very often like a $4 million college qb should.

So one instance is what you are referring to ?

You're making a very compelling case that you simply don't like Beck, so will find fault in most of what he does.

Not specific to Beck, but anytime the analysis of whether a QB is good or not comes down to how many dropped passes there were, that's a tell for me that the QB isn't that great.

I think he means that Sellers is locked in as the starter and there will be no competition against him going into fall camp. There was a QB "battle" between him and Ashford last fall leading up the season last year, though I never really bought it and assumed it would be Sellers all along. Nevertheless, he's no longer trying to become the starter as he was last year at this time. He IS the starter without any questions. It comes with different pressures.
He's also the starter with national hype. National media is pointing to him as a Heisman candidate and first round draft pick. LOTS of pressure to perform and succeed.

NIL Valuation is a made up algorithm created by On3. It is NOT the actual value of a players' NIL deals.

Yep, outside of Gamecocks circles last year, he was a total nobody. And within Gamecocks circles, not all were sold on him going into the season or after the ODU game. I don't know that we've ever had a QB get this much pre-season hype.

My point in bringing up Beck was just to illustrate that this is not a very strong QB group going into this College Football Season and that, if any QB could be offered 4 Million per season, Sellers could. Draft mocks have guys like Cade Klubnik as the Top College QB going into the season. Some have Garrett Nussmeier. I would definitely put Sellers in that class with higher upside.

Understood. The other articles that quoted similar numbers may be based of something similar.

Ill take that over a person on anonymous message board saying they heard his dad's uncle's barber say it was actually 3.5 million.
