Sellers still tracking as a high draft pick

Edged Nussmeier as QB1 based on a poll of 25 NFL scouts. Not sure how that's possible based on what we've seen so far this season, but they like his physical traits.

It is sickening to think his talent could be totally wasted b/c Beamer brought back a known liability in Teasley.

It says something horrible about our coaching that in spite of how bad our offense has been, our QB is still viewed as a high draft pick. I'd have guessed his draft stock would have plummeted by now.
Maybe they are taking into consideration the OL he is playing behind. Based upon what I have seen with my own eyes and looking at Sellers stats, he has done very well. That is also taking into consideration the goal line sack, etc.

Putrid OL.

That makes sense. For his sake, I hope they continue to do that.

If he is still a high draft pick, anywhere in the first round, at the end of this season, he should go this year. He has nothing to gain by sticking around.

I think that poll was taken before the game. They talked about it during the game.
Sellers hasn't put it all together, but NFL Scouts see the flashes like the TD pass to Jacobs in the 1st of half of the last game. Yes, Sellers has maddeningly questionable plays, but usually its geared toward making a play. Scouts are probably like me and would like to see him behind a solid offensive line where he can just rip it. Also, there is no QB in College Football that has stood out this year. I guess we will just have to let the season play out.

If he goes pro after this season............Ladies & Gentlemen, Jamarcus Russel!
I wouldn't go that far. Russell didn't care about conditioning. Now, I could see it going like Anthony Richardson. One thing you have to consider though is that there was a OC change and Shula is obviously trying to change Sellers style of play for whatever reason. I think some of you need to give Sellers some grace for going through that and still being our best solution in winning a game.

I think he is a 1st rounder. LIKE RATTLER….hes playing behind an FCS OL with no SEC level RBs. Rattler is playing great as a pro, so will Sellers, they simply played college ball with FCS OL & RBs, coached by G5 caliber coaches.

I don't think Sellers is in the same zip code as the only 5* quarterback to ever play for us.

With certain QBs, scouts just fall in love with the physical traits. With Sellers, they see a prototypical dual threat NFL QB. You can't coach the physical traits. You either have them or don't. They see all the potential in Sellers...if given proper coaching and a strong supporting cast.

It says something monumental about him with how woeful our offense has been this season that scouts still hold him in high regard.

He is still young. With a bit of improving he could work his way up to that.

He needs better circumstances though. Imagine if he had a better OL and a better OC?
I absolutely agree. I think he has gone from "not highly recruited" and a "project" to a pretty decent QB ..... he has flashes. He also still makes boneheadedly dumb decisions and that is keeping him from becoming a Great QB.

It pains me to say this, but given the NIL crap, he needs another year for sure. That is a certainty. But whether or not that "another year" is with us or someone else is up in the air. My worst fear for him is that he will declare after this year, be thrown to the wolves in the NFL and wind up being relegated to a back up QB or worse, practice squad QB. He has the potential to be much better than that, but he ain't there yet. Nowhere close.

Sellers and a "bend-but-don't-break" Defense were the only reasons we were in that game on Saturday Night.

When you're forced to pay a QB $4mil to retain him and your yearly NIL budget is compromised, the skill player cubbard is going to be sparce at best.

Speaking purely from his point of view, not ours.

His path should be to impress scouts as much as possible. Get a draft grade. If some NFL teams grade him high based on physical tools, and a hope they can coach him, he should go.

If he gets a low grade, one has to start asking if his future NFL career and draft position is best served by coming back here vs transferring to a competent team.

Not with the current coaching staff for sure.

I love Sellers but he is clearly not ready for the NFL.
No, he's not. Not under the tutelage of Shula/Beamer. Sellers is a potential generational talent at QB. He's stuck in a garbage system right now, though. At least he's only a sophomore school-wise. Imagine how Klubnik is feeling, coming back for a 5th season of that hot mess.

Why would a kid like Sellers not transfer next year to a school with a bottomless NIL purse instead of go to the NFL and get rookie max (at best) money? I know he and his dad said there was no question about him coming back to USC... but will that be two years in a row? What if he can get $10 million at a place like TX Tech or Oregon? He wouldn't need to play in the NFL.

Here is my take on Sellars…
He can make every single throw on the field. He has done a better job of not putting the ball in danger this year. Strong arm, big body, with surprising speed for a guy that size. Does get happy feet, and will give up the open throw underneath for the chance at a big gainer. Will occasionally force the ball into placed he shouldn’t.

More than anything, he is a leader and a gamer. Shula has changed his game to the detriment of the Gamecocks, but possibly extended his career. On a team with other threats where he doesn’t have to be the savior he may learn to throw it away and live another day. He will make mistakes, and we have been putrid on O. May not have have won a game without him under center.

I see him in the NFL as more of a Deebo Samuel type or maybe a Kordell Stewart since he played QB in college. Someone you can get the ball to many ways from all over the field. And of course mix in some passes. I recommend deep ones since that's his best ball. He would be like Superman.

LaNorris and his family have a decision to make. I think his brother being there plays a role in his decision. If he’s the top QB taken and a high 1st round draft pick, then you have to go. Otherwise my decision would be based on what Beamer does in the off-season. If he keeps the same pathetic OC and OL, I would take little brother and bolt to another school.

He's not going to get $10 million anywhere, no qb is unless he has won a national championship already and is a lock for the Heisman.

That said, I wouldn't blame any college player for staying in college and making seven figures while living the college life over going to the NFL and having to fight for a roster spot.

Bryce Underwood would like a word with you. And that's right out of high school.

He should have had 3 picks on Saturday. Two of them were right to Mizzou defenders with one of those having no Gamecock in the same zip code. They had success on the one drive where they had Hunt blocking in the backfield and Faison blocking on the next play. Like any quarterback, he needs time to throw.
