Sellout?

I'm assuming season tickets didn't sell out this year? I haven't heard anything. I let four of mine go this year so people on the waiting list would have a chance. Apparently, I wasn't the only one.:(
I can't remember a year I was less psyched for wrestling season, and I'm not sure exactly why. We've had a lot of years lately where we had zero chance of winning Nationals, but this year is different. We have a solid 4th or 5th place team if we're healthy, and with some supernatural help we could get 2nd, but I'm just not feeling it. Pump me up and give me reasons to get excited.

It's hilarious that you think anyone would believe you when you said why you didn't buy season tickets. As if there are a bunch of poor people who can't attend a meet if they want to go or something. Just say it's because you're less psyched. It's obvious and it's totally fine.

I'm glad I gave you a laugh. There has been a waiting list the past several years, and if this year didn't sell out it looks like all those people got a chance this year. $780+ for those tickets might have also been a factor to a retired guy on a fixed budget when I didn't get all of them used a few times last year. I used to have people fighting over my extras, but not so much lately, which is odd because they've been a little harder to come by. I figured I just don't know the right people anymore, because there has been an obvious demand.

Believing there were significant problems getting tickets in recent years is wild. Thanks for coming clean that it wasn’t a big reason for stopping.

I get it, PSU is annoyingly good. With that said I think this team scores the most points since our championship season. We should have 2 or 3 guys wrestling on Saturday night. We could very well have 6 in the semi’s. Right now as it stands we are the favorites for runner-up. 2-5 is going to be a dog fight. I predict it Iowa, Okie st, Iowa State, Nebraska in that order. Time will tell and health will be one of if not the biggest factor.

Don’t forget our two big acquisitions last year only scored a couple points at the tournament because of injury, and the one injured all year was the one favored to be champion. You put the points the would have scored healthy, and we may have challenged for second. Now you think we could place as low as 5 th when healthy? I think Bailey is going to do better than people think up a weight. Same with Williams if he stays out of trouble and puts the work in. I think whoever man’s 49 has a shot at low AA also.

I don't know how you can claim "we are the favorites for runner-up." Literally no one who does rankings has Iowa 2nd. Nebraska is the clear #2 and are ranked as such across the board. NWCA and Flo have us 3rd, Willie has us 4th.

My opinion Nebraska has a better chance to be what they've always been then to repeat what they did last year.
I see them with 5AA but could see 6. And starting the year I would say the same for Iowa. But in my opinion have more guys capable

I am hoping to make it to CHA for a dual this year but don't have tickets yet. Are they difficult to get?

Not sure if the season tickets have sold out this year, but when watching on TV last year, there seemed to be a lot of empty seats at quite a few of the matches.

Pump me up and give me reasons to get excited.

So many reasons

1. Drake and Caliendo's last attempt to stand at the top of the podium. And nobody better pretend like we didn't just see a "next topic champ" lose in the finals last season.

2. One more run for PK. Can the lunchpail carrying Hawkeye improve on his breakthrough 4th place performance last season?

3. Will a change of scenery help 2x bloodrounder Dean Peterson make the podium in his final season?

4. How will Endene look in his transition to D1?

5. Will Bailey and Williams thrive in the Hawkeye room? Personal note- I am very high on Bailey. Think he's top 4 this year.

6. Does a healthy, slightly bigger Ben Kueter translate to a more aggressive/offensive wrestler on the mat? Is it enough to put him in the top 4?

7. Angelo hits the lineup full time!!!

8. Will the 149 roster battle ultimately churn out an AA contender?

If none of that works, just watch this:

Yeah, I had to make the switch mentally. It was hard being enthused watching PSU overtake Iowa as the greatest dynasty in the last 50 years. What they're doing is unprecedented. Watching them break our point total record was the most sport's grief I've ever had. Therefore, I had to go through the phases of grief, as much as one needs to do for mere sports.

I'm over it now. I've come to grips with it. Iowa wrestling is still fun to watch. We have to realize that the Hawks do have a team that would contend for a title if the Lions weren't there with their outrageous lineup.

I'm excited to watch Ferrari. I want Ayala to get that title. I want to PK end on a great note. How will Keuter do with the additional 15 lbs. and a fixed hip? Can Caliendo beat Messenbrink? We're 27-29-2 all time in duals against the Cowboys. I want to right that that ship. There's many fun story lines to follow.

No. Not even during the sellouts of the past several years. Always plenty on Stubhub and usually for a reasonable price.

jrod you had me until the vid, it just reminded me he is in minny

Good. Gives him some seasoning before his inevitable return to Iowa City in some capacity. Experience with other coaches and programs is a very helpful thing.

(Am I lying to myself about his return? Probably. LOL)

I see your point. I remember there were a few years where they had some fun PR stuff going on. There was "Good Morning Murin" where Max Murin did some interviews in the room and Sam Stoll did something kinda like that too for a short time. Laura Vandeberg did some in-room interviews one year - but then suddenly all the PR stuff just stopped dead. Nothing - no news or fun stuff coming out of the room anymore. I know that stuff is a distraction to Tom Brands. He is an "All Business" kind of man but to keep fan support and interest it would be nice to get some of those fun PR tactics back

"Good Murin America" and "Morning Stroll with Sam Stoll" were both great. I wish we got content like that out of the room still

First I'm a Penn State grad and fan, but one disturbing thing I've noticed is the massive increase in price prices for tickets to about anything the last few years.
Penn State tickets are going to skyrocket after the football renovations are done. My cousin has 40 yard line seat seats and he will need to pay approximately $700 a game per ticket including his seat license fee and the cost of the tickets. There will also be an initial $10,000 buy in.

I've seen this increase in other entertainment options such as concerts, sign price for Whiskey Myers tickets go up approximately double in a year or two. I saw a massive increase in certain hotel rooms, such as the Annapolis waterfront Marriott. This Marriott is close to the naval Academy by the way and they have 16 balcony rooms.

The price for a certain weekends could be $1000 a night now. We stayed in those rooms plenty of times and honestly over the years we were paying 3 to 500 and it just seemed to increase the last few years.

Entertainment options which would include college wrestling have gone up substantially in the last few years and at some point it's gonna squeeze out the average fan.

Luckily it is a cheaper option than many other entertainment choices but I doubt I'm gonna see $50 for a ticket for the Big Ten championships like I did at Maryland two years ago. My friend and I are planning to attend them at Penn State and we are prepared to pay through the nose.

I'm 62, I've lived long enough to see records I never thought would be broken be broken. I doubt people will surpass Krook junior's continuous game streak, and I doubt we'll see certain pitching records and baseball broken now the way the game is played, but look what's happening with the Dodgers pitcher Ohtani ?

I never thought I'd see a picture hitting 50 some home runs per year. Gable had a legendary run and very few programs will ever have a run like that. There's only three that I can think of Oklahoma State, Iowa and now Penn State. And also the way I look at it there's no greatest of all time there's just a greatest at a certain time.

You can't compare Iowa in the 70s and 80s to Penn State now, it's a totally different era. Just like you can't compare the Yankees in the 50s to a dominant team in the 1970s or 80s. Or 90s when everybody found steroids or right now, it's a totally different game.

So at my age, 62, I just enjoy what I see right now and I'm glad I saw what I did in the past. This is entertainment so I choose to try to enjoy it as much as possible and not be too distressed by it.
