I see Marshall ranked 16th in one major poll this week, and 17th in the other one. Congrats for the ranking, but keep in mind that is the result of being undefeated against a strength of schedule that Sagarin ranks at 130.

The question is do you Herdiots really believe that there are only 15 or 16 teams in the land that could beat Marshall this year?

I firmly believe that the writers and the coaches are very knowledgable when they do their rankings. After all, who else are you going to believe?

You replied but you didn't answer the question that I asked. Which is, do YOU seriously think that there are only 15 or 16 teams in the land that could beat Marshall this year.

No. But how do you account for the 16/17 ranking. I'm as baffled as you are, but I'll take what is given.

The same thing could be said about anybody ranked throughout history. I believe Penn State was ranked around 7th at one point this year.

As for Marshall, they could be competitive on the field against maybe half of the P5, even being the favorite in a game against some, but the answer to your question is no. There's probably 40-50 teams that could beat Marshall on any given day. Truth of the matter, most people voting on these polls simply look at records. It's always been a popularity contest and it always will be one. There's a reason why preseason polls almost look identical from year to year.

You’re just regurgitating the same argument we made when WVU was in the Big East and ranked. Try bring original

I'm a rare breed, liking the Herd and Iowa State. Though I am more partial to the Cyclones. I have seen all games of both teams. So since I consider myself a fair judge, my take:
I think ISU would win 6 or 7 out of 10 games against Marshall. I think the Marshall defense is that good. The Marshall offense is not as good as ISU's, but it is serviceable and is decent. Marshall's special teams are better. (but that's not saying much)

Now, this of course depends on what you think of Iowa State. Maybe they are not worthy of their ranking either.

My breakdown of advantages:
ISU run offense vs Herd run defense: Moderate ISU
ISU pass offense vs Herd pass defense: Slight Herd
Herd run offense vs ISU run defense: Moderate ISU
Herd pass offense vs ISU pass defense: Slight ISU
Herd special teams vs ISU special teams: Moderate Herd

I think WVU will be a tough game for ISU this weekend. I like the long layoff. WVU will be rested, but I think the lack of game speed for 3 weeks will hurt the Mountaineers. Glad it is in Ames. I'm impressed with how well WVU has played this year. I thought with a new coach it would be total dogcrap and and 8th or 9th place finish. Really should have had that Texa$$ game.

saw a car downtown yesterday with both a marshla and a va tech sticker on the bumper...my first thought was " what a poor tormented individual that must be" 👎
I have a friend and his wife that live close to Blacksburg, and they're both huge Herd and Hokie fans, so might have been that *******.

I'm well, but I'm still locked down from Governor Witchmer. Saving a bunch of money from not being able to do anything, but the liver is taking a hit, so taking a break from booze for a couple months, and already halfway through the break. My mom being locked down in WV took a major toll, and she's now early stages of dementia, so probably putting her into a nursing home as soon as it's safe to do so. Currently spending $1,000/week for in-home care until she gets placed into a home. To get free nursing home care (less her social security check), she cannot have any money in the bank, so we've been using her bank funds to pay for in-home care, but we're finally close to running out, so now the boys are pitching in $5,000 each to get us through the next three months, or maybe more if needed. Hopefully, the vaccine takes care of that, and we can move her to the home soon.

unfortunately sounds like a carbon copy of what my brother and I went through after our dad died. Mom couldn't live by herself and they didn't have much saved. We found a really good facility in St Marys that would accept her dog but that's not cheap as you know. When she died after everything was settled I think there was like 142 bucks left but she was wonderfully cared for and my brother was 5 minutes away. The only thing that spared us a little stress was that mom didn't have noticeable "early stages". Once dad died she just went into full blown dementia and there was no agonizing over "the decision". We also went through the same thing with my wife's parents. Hang in there my friend...will be thinking about you

More woulda, coulda, shoulda blabber from the ancient delusional one. Louisiana Lafayette of the Sun Belt Conference thumped Iowa State in Ames by the score of 31-14, so try to reconcile this with your drivel. Iowa State would be susceptible to losing one out of 10 games played by about 50 schools, if it rolled out a stinker as it did vs. the Rajun Cajuns.

forgot to tell you one funny( but not) incident. My brother was executor of mom's estate because he lived 5 minutes away. Not too long after the funeral I got an official letter saying I could claim 1/2 of the 142 bucks that were left......BUT it would cost me $65 to file for it. We had already decided to donate the money to her church but I got the letter anyway

I wish I knew. I could of got you in touch with someone who would of helped you protect her money, car and home legally. I just went through this last year with my mom.
July 2019 she went in to a nursing home and passed away in June 2020.

Very sorry for what she and the family is about to go through. Putting everything aside, my thoughts are with you. This will not be easy.

It's ridiculous of what you have to go through to keep the state from taking everything. I've even thought about buying the house, and may still do so, and use it as a rental property, or simply re-selling it after maybe putting $40-$50k into some remodeling. Property in Fayetteville is selling well above market, due to all the people buying up houses, and using them as rentals for the tourism business. I actually had a rental in Fayetteville two years ago, and had to pay $150 a night. Wasn't a bad place, but it certainly wouldn't have been confused for a Trump property.
