I'm as critical of Cal as anyone, but this is not the time to discuss this. We have our best team in years and just lost to another good team. Let's deal with this kind of stuff after we see how the year shakes out.

There are some mud-major coaches that are killing it. Bring in one of those guys.

No point in offering up hires. The cal fanboys think Cal is better than all of them somehow, someway. Tommy Lloyd? What has ever won? Danny Hurley? Only one title (Well, Cal's one title doesn't count because um he has 6 final fours). Scott Drew what has he ever won? (His one title doesn't count because Covid. But Cal's Covid year Losses don't count either).

Lloyd or Hurley in a one potato, two potato.

Couch Cal is a one trick pony who has been embarrassed year in, year out with an overwhelming advantage in talent. No one has done less with more in the history of sports.

He now has more Quad 4 losses than NCAA tourney wins in the last 5 years.

you call up nike, ask them who they want at UK, who they'd help and want here. They'll probably help get that coach here too

but knowing football first barnhart, any quid pro quo , he'll ask for the return to be in football or a lower sport.

Pope is good, but recruting.....

Hell no on Beard. Domestic abuser.

Shaka? I dunno....

Pitino is too old, don't know if he could handle the pressure at this point.

Give me a crack at Lloyd or Drew.
And Pitino is a domestic abuser

Tubby only ever recruited one class well. The one with Rondo, Morris, and Crawford was, by the rankings, an amazing class. I mean that was a Cal level class in terms of pre season hype.
I agree with you except that Tubby didn’t recruit that class. Rondo came here only to spite Pitino after Pitino snubbed him by reneging on his offer and giving it to Sebastian Telfair instead. Joe Crawford then came because he really wanted to play with Rondo, and Ramel Bradley came because he was super tight with Joe. Randolph Morris had all kinds of schools after him because he was a bigtime center for that day and age. But he was ineligible to sign with any of them. By the end of the summer when he finally scraped through summer school and qualified, he looked around and found all those destination schools had moved on and went with other kids, not wanting to roll the dice on Morris ever being cleared. Tubby was still dumpster diving late in the summer as was usual by that time in his career. So we turned out to be the only school of any account that still had a spot for a center and Morris jumped on it. Tubby did sign a really good class that year, but he didn’t recruit them. They fell in his lap. Tubby’s recruiting scores were Jason Parker, Tayshaun Prince, and Keith Bogans. And not really a single class you could call a stellar class in total.

I tell you, there's probably hundreds of coaches, who'd want a chance to coach UK.

The problem is, will they get complacent? Lose the drive, focus and hunger to succeed...

You could argue that this has happened with our current situation.

I agree, let Nike decide and maybe they will help us as much as duke was getting helped last ten years of Coach K.

Other than that.
I'm up for
Beard, Drew, ... Lloyd maybe, he is young.
Really like Beard. And yes you have to at least try Hurley and Billy Donovan again for that matter if your Mitch.
Problem is, I have no faith in Mitch .. never really have agreed with decisions he made. He hired Cal and Stoops but that's after making HUGE mistake hires... and he gave both coaches ridiculous contracts.

As far as Cal goes, I used to love him but he's lost it. This lose, man it was poor in game coaching again. Letting edwards continue to get beat and miss, Adou should have got way more minutes... and throwing bradshaw in didn't hurt us but this turned out to not be the game to risk throwing a new piece in and after seeing it be close I would have not played him because he didn't really give us anything, i know he was +11 while out there but that's not always a good stat. I guess it was a hard to coach game with the guards being in foul trouble but if they weren't I would have just played Shep, Reeves, Dilly, Adou, Tre whole game, whatever it took to win and bradshaw and burks for breathers on adou and tre. Edwards most of the time so far is a big liability sadly to say. We got top 5 recruits this class but in a normal year they would be 15-20 ranked in a strong class... I think all the elite guys when they do come up in a special year still get pushed to other schools not here by powers that be? NIKE etc.

To the guy saying Pope, pope has won nothing and last year was like 19-15 at BYU in his FOURTH YEAR at BYU.

The F you say?? Is that true?? That's an amazing stat. That's incredible for a Kentucky coach to have that attached to their name. Inexcusable. Out of all the weird Cal stuff and stats, that pretty much sums up the state of the program under Cal.

Donovan makes $6m/yr and they are getting ready to gut the whole team. Without a doubt the first call to me.
I didn't realize that. Interesting. But he's told us "no" before. Twice, right? Nah, I think he stays in the NBA. He strikes me more of the 'I ain't dealing with kids and their demands anymore' kinda guy. Like Jay Wright. I'd call, and would love to get him. But I think it's just a dream.

any coach considered must have been able to recruit and coach a team to the final four.

anyone not meeting that criteria is just another potential Billy Gillispie.

there are no guarantees with that criteria but at least you know what he is capable of.

that also makes the list pretty short

My list would include Drew, Lloyd, Pope, Hurley, Smart.

If you pick Pope, don’t do it because he was a Cat for 2 years. That is where top schools mess up (keeping it in the family). If that’s a tiebreaker for you fine, just don’t make it a key criteria.

again, what is this love of Pope, he was 19-15 last year and that was his FOURTH year at BYU, win something first. That would be the equivalent of Louisville hiring Kenny Payne, that worked very well for them right?
