Setup game for SEC

Could this game Georgia vs Alabama be a setup game for SEC to be in the playoffs? If Alabama lets Georgia win the game then Georgia is automatically in the College Football Playoffs and Alabama doesn't drop out of the playoffs so that would leave Oklahoma or Ohio State out of the playoffs even if they both won their games.

Yeah cause Saban was like, "Yeah sounds good, I'll tell the team to take it easy and lose" and the kids are like, "Hell yeah coach, let's do this, let's be courteous to Georgia"
Its about the $. More money for the SEC if they got two teams in the playoffs and maybe championship game and ESPN would love that.

Set up by conference not Saban. We’ll see how the refs call this if it’s close in the second half. Bet Georgia gets all the calls. Both will get in.

Agree with @IndHusker7 , no team is just going to "take it easy" at that level with those stakes. What if Bama doesn't make the playoffs with a loss?

That being said, best case scenario for playoff expansion proponents is Alabama losing. That forces the committee to make a choice between a team that just lost a CCG (Alabama) and a team that just won one (Oklahoma). No team has made the playoffs after losing a CCG, but a few have made it after not even playing in a CCG (EDIT: 2015 Oklahoma (last year without a Big 12 CCG), 2016 Ohio State, 2017 Alabama).

Saban is a master plotter it seems.

First he recruits players just to keep them away from other teams including Nebraska.

Second, he has his team intentionally lose a game to get them in the playoffs so it brings more money that he has to share with the league.

Yep, he should be president or something with all the strings he can pull. What can't he control?

Bama looking VERY ordinary. Finally playing a team with a pulse. Besides first sack, their DL cannot generate much of a push. Offense making very fundamental mistakes over and over.

Imagine asking a control freak like Saban to throw a conference championship game and put their great season in the hands of a voting committee instead.

Need an 8-team playoff. Five P5 winners get automatic bids, 3 wild cards.

For one wild card spot, have the Top 2 teams that aren't in a conference championship game play on Championship Saturday. That way, Notre Dame would have to play 13 games like everyone else. This year it would be Notre Dame vs. Michigan for a wild card spot.

Too many games for these kids. Same way with Pro football. We don't need more games, we need less games.

FCS has a 24 team playoff, so I don't understand this argument. Every other level of football in pros, college, and high school has a playoff with more than 4 teams. 8-man high school football in Nebraska has a 32-team playoff with only 5 days off in between games.

You could start the season a week earlier and give everyone 2 bye weeks. That would give teams more rest throughout the season.

ZERO wildcards, any team that can NOT win their conference does NOT belong in the playoffs.

Elijah Holyfield is the kind of back we need. We don’t have anyone with that burst and power. Washington needs a lot more time in the weight room. And, Georgia’s line.

The more teams you add to the playoffs the more you're demeaning the last couple games of the season, people aren't thinking this through.
Yes and no. Teams will know earlier that they've qualified for the playoffs, but then the teams that have qualified are playing to host games if the powers that be decide to go with campus sites for early rounds. Plus a lot of other games become interesting late in the season: which teams will host on the top end of the playoff field, which teams will qualify on the bottom end of the playoff field.

I disagree. If more teams have a chance to make the playoffs, then more games will matter. The Pac-12, Big Ten, and AAC championship games would actually matter this year. The SEC title game would still matter because you'd be playing for seeding/home-field advantage.

It's like saying we should go to a 16-team NCAA basketball tournament in order to make the regular season matter more.

So to add to the crazy conspiracy theory, Do you think Saban told Tua that he needs to sprain his ankle on the first series and then will have an excuse for playing bad. Then tell him it's for the good of the conference?

I think the OP was suggesting that the refs are being directed to call it Georgia’s way much like whomever played Nebraska in our final games of the big12.

Hopefully we can recruit some of these 4 & 5 star type recruits here to Nebraska that's in this Georgia vs Alabama game. Tua seems off today with another int.

A 1-loss Bama is in.

Bama, Georgia, Clemson and ND if Bama loses. No problem with it. Those are the 4 best teams.

Oklahoma's defense is trash. Ohio State lost to Purdue.

****, if anybody wants to legitimately piss and moan about it, it's UCF if they win this game against Memphis.

Honestly I keep thinking ND has no business being in the playoffs... yes I get it they play more difficult teams than UCF however they still don’t play in a CCG it’s pure BS that ND can get in so easy and other non power 5 teams have to claw and still may not make it

He doesn't mention the refs. He says "If Alabama lets Georgia win the game" suggesting that Alabama would throw it not the refs. I'm not sure who I want to win though. I would like to see Alabama get beat but I also don't want to see a rematch of them in the National Championship game again.

Saban had the offensive tackle sweep the leg! I'm guessing Georgia is gonna win now if Tua can't come back in. Hurts had a horrible game last year against them.

Tua best qb in the nation? His accuracy did not impress me before the injury.

The luxury of having a veteran QB as your #2. That and a bonehead fake punt call.
