Tom Osbourne comes up a lot in these threads.

And I always wonder if it's one of these situations I've seen before. Where a legend secretly wants his former team to do poorly...so he can retain his legendary miracle-worker image.

I saw a blatant example of this in Minnesota. EVERYONE in Minnesota absolutely loved it when Brett Favre came to the Vikings, led the league in passing, stuck it to Green Bay and whipped them twice, and had us within an atrociously officiated overtime of the Super Bowl.

Except for 1 Minnesotan. Fran Tarkenton. He despised Favre. He made this very well known...but his reason was obviously a lie...and he no-doubt was secretly rooting for the Vikings to lose. No doubt.

A ton of coaching jobs were opening up at higher profile programs: LSU, ND, USC, Oklahoma, Florida, etc. Right now is actually is a good time to be hiring a coach compared to last offseason. The only big jobs I see opening up this fall are possibly FSU, UCLA, and maybe Texas if Sarkisian lays an absolute egg. I would not wait long if I am Trev. Go get someone like Meyer.

I brought that up in another thread, besides the bigger buyout this was the Main reason, Trevs job will be based on his hire , that would be stiff competition for a AD who can’t miss to go up against.

Just a thought. Egos can be huge.

It was crazy how Favre was doing so well...yet Tarkenton was blasting him with such disdain in his voice. Saying he had no integrity yada yada...when obviously the real reason was Tarkenton didn't want anyone intruding on his legacy.

This is stupid. We were not even in the market for any of those coaches to begin with. Half the teams you listed just traded coaches with each other. It's impossible to know at this point what jobs will be opening up. The college football landscape can change in a hurry, and it did last year as well. If last year showed anything, it's that coaches want to go where there is a commitment to win. And we haven't shown that in a long time.
