MILWAUKEE (WSAW) - According to a report by the Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, Marquette has tabbed Texas’ Shaka Smart as its next head coach.

The Madison native was hired by Texas back in 2015. During his time with the Longhorns, he finished with a 109-86 record with three NCAA Tournament appearances. Smart never made it past the first round with Texas.
Before he was hired at Texas, Smart was the head coach at VCU. During his six years with the Rams, Smart made the NCAA Tournament five out of six seasons including a run to the Final Four.

TVZ would be very happy to have an alum back at Texas coaching.

Not in our book. Pretty sad he knows more about the state of West Virginia and their sports than he does his own state and school. If that doesn't scream fraud then his 30 profiles do.

He reminds me of that KeatonsCorner clown.

According to a high-placed Longhorns source, decision-makers at the University of Texas met with Shaka Smart on the Monday after the NCAA loss to work towards an amicable departure. ~ Mike Fisher 16 hours ago.

Texas will be spared the expense of buying Smart out of the remaining years of his contract and will be able to begin their search for a new head coach in earnest, without the financial burdens hanging over their head.

Texas is, however, sources tell us, prepared to deal with the financial ramifications of pursuing Texas Tech coach Chris Beard a process we are told is happening at present.
