One of 5 NFL players suspended for gambling. His suspension is indefinite (minimum of 1 year) before being able to apply for reinstatement.

It’s almost if all these commercials/ads everywhere are having a negative affect on people being able control gambling impulses

So, can he play in the XFL/USFL/CFL? Or is there some MOU between all the leagues?

I would have to think his contract prohibits that.
If he gets suspended or released (which he can ask for), then he can go play wherever, right? Keep his skills sharp?

This ain't the days of Alex Karras and Paul Hornung. There are options.

Yes, those who can influence the outcomes of games should definitely be permitted to wager on them.
I’m more concerned about officiating putting a thumb on the scale, affecting the outcome of any game, including the Super Bowl. The NFL is approaching $2B in revenue from gambling, but worry about the players.

Yeah, I don't think officials should be permitted to bet on games either. I'm not sure how the league benefits on a game's outcome one way or the other.

Yeah he could do that but asking for your release has implications also. You have to return the prorated portion of the signing bonus. Not to mention the remainder of guaranteed money. He may have house or car payments that exceed what those leagues make. It’s bad enough that he won’t get a check for this year. Imagine repayment of signing bonus on top of that.

Those losses to the player occur anyway. He won't be paid for the time missed. The team can attempt to recoup that portion of the signing bonus pro-rated to the suspension period. And I'm pretty sure the suspension voids any remaining guaranteed money.

It sure looked like Witvoet and O'Neill bet on OSU and Michigan games...especially when they played against us!
Of course other professional leagues are squeaky clean too. Tim Donaghy NEVER fixed NBA games. Bwhahaha! This suspension is laughable hypocrisy.

The NFL is the height of HYPOCRISY. Gambling is all over their advertising. Some OWNERS have an interest in gambling sites, but players gambling is just awful. 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️
Somewhere, Pete Rose agrees with you!

Ironic right? I remember in high school when kids would walk across the street off school property to smoke before school or at lunch. If the players that weren't betting on other sports besides the NFL would have done the same, they wouldn't be dealing with a 6 game suspension. Bottom line is stay off the team building's WIFI.

Agree. The league allowed the Raiders to move to Las Vegas for crying out loud. Tell me there isn’t a more mixed message or conflict of interest there.
