Asked if he would accept a bowl bid at 5-7, he responded "one million percent".

The 6-game threshold bowl eligibility is pathetic enough, but 5? I mean, I might get it if you were a new coach in your first year and had a coached a young squad to 5 wins and wanted to take that opportunity for further development. But, goodness Shane, this is Year 5, and it hasn't been an up-and-down year that saw us just miss out on bowl eligibility. The season has been an unmitigated, comical disaster of epic proportions.

I know he can't just say "no" but he could go with the "it's something we'd have to take a look at, talk to the AD and see if it makes sense for us." He couldn't even just give a measured "yeah, I think so." He had to say "one million percent". The never-ending exuberance wears thin at times.

I've become convinced there is something wrong with him mentally. He really seems to have some sort of emotional issue. I can't think of another coach who gets so hyped up and acts like such a lunatic. Even when he is talking to the sideline reporter answering questions, his eyes are rolling around and he is almost breathless. The chest bumping, high fiving, butt slapping and general over the top displays on the sideline after a positive play look like someone who is on some serious uppers. The clapping after bad plays makes him look like an idiot. He doesn't have to sulk or go into a tirade with his own players but the clapping looks like he is some sort of rec league coach trying to keep his players from having hurt feelings. That is not how normal adult college head coaches respond to bad plays.

The over-the-top exuberance comes across as overcompensation. It's a distraction. Who was thinking about last year's game going into halftime: Beamer. Who wasn't: Elko.

Did you see Elko's comments heading into the locker room? It was something simple, along the lines of "we'll get it fixed."

I think we're looking too deep into it if we start talking mental issues.

I think its really as simple as the fact that he was hired as a cheerleader. That is his job, and hes pushing too hard at it. Its not genuine.

He is also very fragile when it comes to criticism. But many are.

The thin skinned thing is another tell. He seems to always be on the edge of being offended if he is questioned about anything. It is almost like a persecution complex.

He's a pretty highly paid cheerleader.

I can see SOS going into the half up 30-3: "Well, we missed a few plays here and there" :tooth suck: "Shoulda had a TD there at the end but had to take the FG. We're gonna have to go in and see if we can't come out better in the 2nd half."

Beamer: "we whipped these guys last year!!!!!"

A stark difference between a coach and a cheerleader.

Yeah, like he lashes out at people when challenged, or calls them stupid, worthless or incompetent. Man, that's so weird when people do that. Definitely covering up something.

Exactly, and SOS or Kiffin or Kirby or pretty much any other coach would not have celebrated running off of the field at halftime like the game was over.

He ain't right.

Dabo would have brought up how close they've been all season and that no one should be surprised about the score.

Disagree. It's who he is. Like you, I think it's over the top but it's genuine.

We ain't going to have to be concerned about accepting a bowl bid at 5-7.

I think Beamer is arrogant. His pride gets the best of him. His enthusiasm is over-compensated to cover up his lack of football intellect. He can’t help himself when he gets in front of a camera.

It's probably just me, but I struggle to take a coach seriously who uses the phrase "one million percent" unless he's referring to our offensive improvement from this year to next and actually did the math.

Clemson fan here, but in a house divided. For what it's worth, i attended both Clemson and Carolina.

I would hope they'd accept the bowl bid. Not everyone would be happy about it, but I feel like it be best - especially for the kids (the players). Everyone wants to talk about they're getting payed - blah, blah, blah. Most if them aren't and I'd guess if you asked them they'd want to go.

I don’t have an issue with accepting a bowl under qualified. The problem are players who physically opt out of the post season. Then a handful that participate but mentally don’t show up. We’d get squashed.

Bingo.....nobody is getting excited about a cold bowl game...including players.
