I said it in the thread from before, but this is what has pissed me off the most. The deeper you think about what this has done, the more mindblowing it gets in my opinion.
They have beaten teams in the season and in both the conference and national tournaments who should have faced someone else entirely. There's teams that should have won national titles and not just the years UNC won, but every single ineligible appearance UNC has had was a different team not being in the tournament, a different team not advancing, a different team not winning the national title.
Kids have gone on past college without the ring they deserved. All the money those colleges out there could have received due to winning. All the recruiting many schools could have done via lost tournament opportunities thanks to UNC. There's kids who may have even gave up on basketball because they were beat out year after year by a school like UNC.
Then there's the coaches. We always hear about these coaches who were fired because they didn't play up to certain expectations and those expectations could have been thanks to UNC cheating all these years. There's also all these teams who could have recruited some of these UNC players instead. Those players could have had entirely different, and possibly better careers at a different school.
What the academic scandal has also taught us is that this isn't just the case in men's basketball but in women's basketball, football, and many other sports as well. The more you think about it, the more you realize how many student-athletes, their families, and the coaches and coaching staff have been screwed by this scandal.
THEN, and I'll end it here, there's also all the students who are not athletes, just normal everyday students who have been screwed out of an education. Sure, it was their fault as I'm sure it was obvious what the classes were really about, but it shouldn't have been an option in the first place. There's also the students out there who steered away from these courses who now have degrees from a suspect school. Honestly though, if I was a student at a school who did this, the moment I found out, I would transfer right then. I wouldn't want to have graduated from a school I knew was underhanded.
Oh and I'm also disgusted at all the student-athletes over the years who attended UNC anyway that knew what was going on, no matter if they took those paper classes or not. I say every single one of them who knew, no matter if they took them or not, are not good people. I know these are kids 18-22, but I believed in morals and honesty at that age. I still do.
Whoa! Elvis has left the building! Excellent posts there. Not a word...not one single word...ain't true either. The ripples and ramifications of this mess will never be fully comprehended. No tellin' how many lives were effected because unx decided to do anything possible to win ball games.

Though UNC-CH officials stress the money doesn’t come from tuition or state appropriations, it clearly is money that could have been used for pursuits closer to the university’ mission instead of defending a scandal.
The tab, by the way, is still open. Athletes who claimed they didn’t get a fair shake are suing, and there’s no telling what may be down the road. And the university also spent handsomely on outside public relations help to “manage” the story, even though it has an entire public affairs staff.
Sadly, this public institution, which ought to feel an obligation to report to the taxpayers, has acted more like a private business engaged in damage control. From the beginning, news organizations have had to fight for what is public information, and the university has tried to cast the story as a minor one exaggerated by the press. That’s always a suspicious tactic, and most of the time — including this time — it doesn’t work.

Had the academic scandal resolved itself more swiftly, it’s not a stretch to think UNC might have been ineligible for at least one if not both of those NCAA tournaments.
It’s long been a matter of when, not if, the NCAA levies some form of heavy penalty against the UNC athletic department. The case is widely considered the most egregious academic fraud scandal in NCAA history, so concerning to the Committee on Infractions that at one point last year the judges essentially sent the file back to the prosecutors to make a stronger case.
While the coach’s frustration with the long wait is understandable, perhaps he should also feel a bit grateful for the opportunity it provided.
Knowing the severity of the allegations, other schools might have begged for mercy by self-imposing a postseason ban. North Carolina has done the opposite. It’s stalled, obfuscated and contested the NCAA’s authority, which has only served to draw out an already laborious process even further.

The Question of Academic Fraud
It was, and is, the institution's responsibility to define, identify and report academic fraud. If that academic fraud impacts student-athletes, then it is reportable to the NCAA. UNC failed to do so.
Even worse, UNC has sought to obfuscate the matter and characterize it as Enforcement's failure.
Not only that, but incredibly, UNC STILL seems to insist that the Enforcement and AMA staff's previous determination prior to Wainstein was correct and that there was no academic fraud per "NCAA's definition."
Quite to the contrary: it was always academic fraud and the previous determinations were flawed and incorrect. Now, belatedly, the NCAA staff has gotten it right.

There is more than enough stink around that outhouse in Chapel Hill but I seriously doubt that they get more than a slap on the wrist.The only thing that can console anyone is that the Carolina Way has been exposed as an utter myth, and Dean Smith as the ultimate con artist

They threw out the case by former athletes against UNC in one of the two cases filed and the second is expected to be thrown out on the same grounds as well.
UNC is going to be fine regarding this. Surprised anyone doubts that at this point.

The dismissed case has nothing to do with this. unx may eventually skate ( I'm on record as predicting as much , FWIW ) but if they do it won't be because of this ruling.
Yep. No doubt about it. Outstanding work. That said , I'm no lawyer so my "legalese" leaves much to be desired. Here's a couple of posts from those with experience in the field...

This is not surprising. The case that has a better chance and is still pending is McCants v UNC-CH. As far as this lawsuit, this has no effect on NCAA ruling. The NCAA will be judged in the Jenkins case on how they handle the UNC-CH case. Also, the evidence and precedence against the NCAA (even without UNC-CH) is fairly overwhelming. There is no lawyer or law firm that UNC-CH can put up against the NCAA that scares them more than Jeff Kessler and Steve Berman.

This is a procedural constitutional argument that doesn't reflect one bit on the merits of McAdoo's case. I have filed several such motions to dismiss in federal court for "arms-of-the-state" entities and pursuant to the 11th amendment they must be granted unless the other side can prove that the entity is not really an arm of the state. This still allows the plaintiff (McAdoo) to sue in state court.
Normally, that would be a fair alternative. In the state of North Carolina, I'm not so sure.
About the 25 second mark , Emmert is conceding that the NCAA has no business telling a state what laws they can make. However , he continues , the NCAA holds their championships in places that "support the collegiate model." How does allowing a proven fraud go unsanctioned do that? Hello? Bueller...?

LOL, what a joke of an article. Like Sky always says, they think they're entitled. Paige made a great shot (and an incredibly lucky shot) and that is a reason to think you were robbed? No, if the game had went into overtime, and the Heels would have won, it would have been Nova that was robbed because they outplayed the Heels. No wonder I hate the UNC basketball program.

You would be surprised at how creative you are, MMadness, if you put your mind to it. Get a copy of Photoshop Elements (not too expensive), or Affinity Photo (cheaper still), or GIMP (which is free), and mess around with it. Bet you would come up with some good stuff.
As far as myself, sometimes I have a good idea, but many times it spurred on by someone giving me an idea on here, or something they said. Sometimes it works out, and sometimes it doesn't...but it's still fun.

Some more info on the recent court ruling. Just wanna reiterate. I know exactly "jack" and "squat" about the law and , as always , I'm of the opinion that unx will receive a wristslap over all this. The most damage they'll suffer is what they've already endured. They're exposed. Their precious "carolina way" is a punchline. They can never again lord any holier-than-thou arrogance over their rivals. Their national rep , as far as academics and athletics is concerned , is shot. Of course , the vast VAST majority of the Tarhole Nation could care less so Wal-Mart won't go outta business any time soon. That said...

For over two decades, UNC ran an academic scam using fake classes to artificially enhance the eligibility of at least 1,500 athletes in multiple sports, but most notably in men's basketball and football. Many of these athletes would not have remained eligible to play otherwise. They certainly had more time to practice, train, and recover since they didn't have to worry about going to class or doing coursework. So much for good sportsmanship, the idea of fair competition, and competing on a level playing field.
How many teams of other schools did UNC cheat out of deserved victories, trophies, bowl wins, and championships during this period? The count is likely in the hundreds. The mens' hoops teams from Illinois in 2005 and Michigan State in 2009 immediately come to mind. Since the scam went back at least as far as 1993, Michigan probably has a beef with the 1993 championship too. And UNC has doubtlessly cheated and deceived just about everyone else in the ACC on a regular basis as well, all while proclaiming that "The Carolina Way" meant they were actually better than everyone else in almost every way. Well, except for little things like integrity and honor, that is.
So they lost a big ball game last year to Villanova fair and square. Boo-friggin'-hoo. UNC should go cry to all the folks they've lied to, ripped off, and cheated for decades, including their own student athletes who they cheated out of a chance at a real education by putting them in bogus classes where they learned little or nothing.
