Shane Battier on the Radio

I always listen to podcasts of the Dan Lebatard Show on my way to and from work everyday. Its a really funny show and they hit on a lot of the hot button topics in ways that other sports show hosts wont.

Anyway Battier was on earlier this week as a co-host for the entire 4 hour show. Admittedly at first I didn't think it would be very good because as much as I love Battier I have heard him do basketball games and while he is getting better and will eventually be very good he hasn't been great yet. But he was absolutely hilarious. What an interesting guy. He is great on the radio when he can just be himself. It was one of the better shows I've heard them do. Just wanted to throw that out there if anyone wanted to catch it on a podcast. He was really good

The strides Shane has made just on basketball broadcasts this season is remarkable. He wasn't very good early in the year, but I think it was just nerves and trying to find his form. If you listened to one of his broadcasts in December and then listened again at the the end of February you wouldn't have thought it was the same person.

He's going to be very good in the coming years.

Jay Will was similarly stiff at first, and now he looks very natural and is having fun. S Batt will be good in time.

Go back and watch a season 1 Simpsons or Family Guy. These things take time.

Battier can NEVER do anything wrong in my mind. Best Duke defender, best Duke-type guy, one of the Best Duke winners, and the definition of what a true Duke player is and should be. All others will forever try to live up to Battier. Heck, I named my dog Battier. Love the reaction that gets from UNC fans.

Earlier on Sportscenter during Duke practice


"Coach K called a team meeting the night before the game. We go into Cameron Indoor and all the lights are off.

Then the spotlight shines on the Final Four banners and Coach says "Hey guys, I'm just an old Polish coach looking for a little team with heart to get one of these banners"

We went crazy and won by 30 the next day"
