Teams can play zone in the NBA now. The ban was lifted a number of years ago.

It’s not a true zone. You have a little more freedom to roam and help but you still have to guard a man and there’s a defensive 3-second call that gives the opponent a FT after the 1st one. It is true that there is no longer the “illegal defense” call w/ T FTs. However, you can’t really play a straight 2-3 zone either.
