"We don't win the games that matter" Shawn Eichorst said

He fired Bo Pelini, which was needed, so now we just don't win any games because he is incompetent.

"Folks who are objective and intelligent about football have to look at graduation, injuries, and suspensions and dismal, and all of that other stuff. No excuses there, but we have to be judged fairly on where we're' at, and I like where we're at."

That is what Shawn said last Friday prior to the game yesterday.

Shawn, players were graduating, we didn't have any major issues off-the field, players were dismissed when they needed to be, and players where suspended when needed (failed drug tests that violate NCAA rules and the like).

All you had to do was spend money and spend your time to hire a head coach that was a proven winner or hire Scott Frost. Instead you went on to hire Mike Riley that you pushed to try and get hired when you were at South Carolina.

Why was Mike Riley the only coach you met during the coaching search? That is not a real coaching search. You didn't take any phone call from any interested party.

Sorry to say Shawn, but your job is on the hot seat and you will be fired and we will go and hire Trev Alberts, a former all-american player at Nebraska that is an experienced AD at the University of Nebraska Omaha. He has made smart choices and made good hires at that school. Trev will bring in people that can get us back to being elite.

Go back to Wisconsin, Shawn and take your love for Mike Riley with you and he can be a consultant to Paul Chryst.

Bring in Trev Alberts to be our athletic director.

As much as I want to disagree with you, I think SE might have punted this one into the stands. While I sincerely appreciate HCMR approach and the way he communicates, there had to be other coaches out there that also fit the mold of HCMR but have been more successful.

Regarding Trev, interesting name. Going from UNO to UNL is a massive jump....I'm not for sure he is ready for that.....However, one thing he will not have an issue with is the culture.

His hiring of Mike Riley could end up being a career destroyer at the FBS level if he doesn't escape to Wisconsin ASAP.

He wanted to offer the job to Bret at Arkansas but he said no. Bret recommended Paul Chryst and Paul said he wouldn't be interested as he wanted the Wisconsin job. So then Shawn goes to his forever ideal of Mike Riley, whom he has wanted to hire since his days at South Carolina, and offered him the job and never met another coach.

The Nebraska fans, alumni, players, and the state got f'd over and it will take Nebraska connected and Nebraska ties to fix the disaster we are in.

I remember someone on the paid board that made daily threads about wanting McElwain. That poster was right.

But it is time to move on from that and fix what we have to deal with and that is reality. First we fire SE, hire Trev Alberts, and then go out and hire a proven winner or get Scott Frost or Tom Herman.

I was on the paid board and posted a lot about it. but then the boss said times were hard, and bo was having meetings with players after he was canned. so I decided to hold off a year being on the paid board.

I don't know if Nebraska can afford to fire Riley even if it wanted to. That would mean in 2016 they would have three head coaches on the payroll, with Pelini set for another three years and Riley four. That's like $10 million in salaries alone, depending on how much they have to pay the new hire.

Firing Eichorst would be a great start, though. Riley also needs to realize undying loyalty has no place in major college football, and fire his underperforming assistants.

None of these things will happen, of course. I can daydream, though.

You tell Coach Riley to retire to save face. Bo would only be getting paid for three more years anyways and Coach Riley would only get 170k dollars a month prior to any type of negotiations.

People say he should make changes to the staff, but that is not going to happen. These coaches are stuck to the hips of each other. Coach Riley will leave for a new job before he would fire any of them.

They need to make cleaner contracts, they are way too greasy…

I honestly don't know that much about Shawn Eichorst, but interesting to know he wanted MR at South Carolina. I don't pretend to know what the best next move is, by I would think Trev Alberts should definitely be considered.

Surprises me that he wanted Riley at South Carolina too, never heard that one but considering his Coaching search maybe it makes more sense after all.

Isn't this Pearlman last year? If so I could see the new chancellor firing SE and hiring a new AD.
There are big money boosters out there that are not very fond of the quit AD and they have not been very impressed with him.

That is correct and there is a search for a new Chancellor . Bo had to go to clear the path for that hire and nothing is going to happen to SE or MR until a new man is on board.

Who knows MR might prove to be an ok hire and when necessary can be eased out of the position. He's a likable guy and might fill a roll as assistant to the Chancellor in a few years,

Correct. They are currently in the hiring process for a new Chancellor. The next move will be firing Shawn Eichorst and bring in Trev Alberts as the AD. At that point we will bring in a new head coach unless things get so bad that Riley goes 0-8 in conference play.

McElwain never would have come here unless they were going to pay him more than what Florida offered.

Trev for AD will be a great start. By that time we will clearly know if MR is the guy or not. Let's just hope the roster has decent depth by then.

He grew up in a tiny town west of Madison. Played college football at UW-Whitewater. Worked and trained under Barry Alvarez. Went to work at South Carolina and tried to get Coach Riley hired when he was at South Carolina. When he was at Miami he lasted 18 months before coming to Nebraska. The Chancellor at Miami was the Chancellor at Wisconsin that hired Barry Alvarez to be the head caoch at Wisconsin.

Every move SE does has a Wisconsin training insight from Barry Alvarez that has his own coaching hire failures occurring at Wisconsin.

BA tried to hire Coach Riley in 2012 at Wisconsin (yes, that is the factual truth).

Before the Wisconsin game last season, BA and SE had a meeting for how to handle Bo's firing. Every move SE made with replacing Bo had a BA-Wisconsin emphasis. Literally didn't take any time or energy to do a real coaching search.

I hate to think BA would stick it to Nebraska.....maybe he under estimated how badly Bo had things upside down.

nah, BA is his mentor and continues to be his mentor to this very day (10/11/2015) and SE has not grown to become his own AD and do his own things and do his on searches. This is on SE as it is his job on the line. SE will try to get out to Wisconsin ASAP when BA retires from Wisconsin. Wisky can deal with him instead.

Can't fire SE. He makes too much money and we would be on the hook for his contract. This whole concept of gigantic long term contracts for AD's is stupid. What Chancellor wants to be paying two AD salaries at over two million dollars per year?

The money to "buyout" his contract is mere pennies now. He is on his third year of his 5 year contract already and we will have a new Chancellor in June of 2016.

Mcelwain was never coming to Nebraska. Any coach would pick Florida all day over Nebraska. We should have went after a guy like Tom Herman, but Eichorst always wanted a guy with experience. Someone like Tom Herman would have came.

Then I hope Wisconsin allows Alvarez to pick his own successor and he chooses Eichorst. Though if Riley doesn't turn things around, I doubt anyone else in Wisconsin will want to hire Eichorst.

Only thing they discussed is SE asked BA who would be someone that could change Nebraska image over what we previously had.

I'm with you they didn't talk about how to handle Bo. He had Pearlman to tell him time to do it.

Bo was right about SE. But now SE is tied to the hip with Coach Riley. SE never went to the locker room, never met with Bo, was never supportive, only had two conversations with Bo.

Gil Brandt said Eichorst made contact with Beliema's representatives. He usually has good sources. You can get into the technicalities about an offer, but you dont technically offer unless you know they will take it.
