Sorry i cant help but respond to this. Nobody in Shelby with a brain thinks we're the best team in the state this year or any previous year. We know that 3a and 4a football is different. The size of the offensive and defensive line alone make it tough for us to consistently compete.

Ware knew this when he scheduled us to play South Pointe. It was solely away for him to get exposure for the school and further his future coaching plans.

We are a very dominant 2a team and some years could possibly complete against some of the bigger schools. Shoot may even win.

Why can't we all admit this?
You’re probably one the most logical Shelby guys, ever! Definitely not apart of the imbecile Shelby crew, who believe Shelby invented Football.

You know exactly what it means.
I"d bet a few grand to a sack of goat turds you're Ralph Macchio, the poster of a few years ago that hinted he was from Gaston County, but had inside info to Cleveland County underground goings on as well. Your stirring the pot skills remain intact, but your writing style remains too familiar. Good job, Mister Macchio.

Guess what he is saying is just about any game for a 2A school or a school looking for a crutch could be considered playing up. Was Weddington playing up or providence Day playing up? Both could make the argument. Was west charlotte playing up against Harding or was Harding playing up as WC is perceived the better team? Was Shelby really playing up as they beat AC reynolds previously.

The point of the post was to note Shelby even when ranked highly and with their better championship teams cant regularly compete at 4A level even vs. middle of pack 4A teams. Shelby is great at their level and a great deal of their success is because 2A ball is not nearly as competitive as 3A, and not close to 4A. Even at the 3A level most of the better teams were former historically 4A teams.
When was the last time Shelby won a State Championship and was clearly the best team in the state and also nationally ranked in the USA Today rankings and such? The reason I ask is, just because you've won the most games or have the most 1A/2A championships, doesn't mean you are hands down the best. Sure, we can label you one of the best programs...... but you cannot just say you're better than everyone else, when clearly you haven't ever been........
Well, time again to set the record straight.
Funny how you guys come to completely erroneous positions on us, or even make stuff up just to then rag on us for something never said or implied.
We have never said or implied that you could dump 2A Shelby into NC 4A and we would walk away with the same 19 Titles we have won over the last 50 so years. Wouldn’t happen. Satisfied?
What we do claim is that Shelby is the most successful, sustained, winningest PROGRAM in NC high school history, accurate over all PROGRAMS in all classifications.
That is historically and factually undeniable.
Not opinion.
Roughly half the Titles and most of the wins were at the 3A level. The rest were as 2A since 1997. Did you know that?
Someone could come up with the most successful PROGRAM in NC 4A, as one surely exists. We would suggest that is Richmond County. But their stats are dwarfed by Shelby’s.
And they have only one Title and appearance in the last 23 years
Same with Robbinsville in 1A. Great program.
But can’t touch Shelby.

Now listen closely.

We have no misconceptions that most Championship RIchmond County teams would defeat most Championship Shelby teams. Maybe all of them. More on that later.
But that has absolutely nothing to do with accurately describing the Shelby PROGRAM as statistically ahead of the RC PROGRAM in accomplishments.
Why do you think Classifications exist?
Go to war with 2400 soldiers versus an army of 800.
Does that really need explaining? If so, you are a fool and you are on here posting nonsense, and you know it.
When challenged as to whether Shelby has EVER competed or won against the best in 4A, we give 3 examples. One is distant past, one is 25 years ago, and one is recent.

1960 - Shelby, in the 9th game of the season, defeated Gaffney,SC, who went on to win the SC 4A title that year. Gaffney has won more titles than any other PROGRAM in SC history.

1993-1997 - Shelby defeated 4A Crest in 93,95, and 97, while the Crest PROGRAM won the unified 4A State titleS in 94 and 96 after close wins over the Golden Lions. Shelby was State Runnerup in 97 and won it all in 98. Same year RC won 4A.
Hmmm…

2021 - Just last year, Shelby trailed 4A Rock Hill South Pointe by only 7 points and the ball late in the 4th quarter but was defeated 51-37 with a late garbage time TD after a late 4 th down attempt in the SP red zone.
South Pointe won the 4A SC Title in 2021.
South Pointe beat Mallard Creek last week.
Hmmm again …..

The Golden Lions have nothing left to prove.
And we accept some of you will hate us cause you ain’t us.
We just need to IMprove with this season’s team and see how far we can go. We have been here before

Cute, guys. How are your teams doing? Hmm?

But consider this;
Shelby Golden Lions

1975. 1-3 start. State Champs
1976. 2-2 start. State Champs
1986. 2-1-1 start. State Champs
1989. 2-2 start. Lost in Western Final
1998. 2-2 start. State Champs
2005. 3-2 start. State Champs
2010. 2-4 start. Lost in Western Final
2011. 1-2 start. Lost in Western Final
2013. 1-2 start. State Champs
2018. 1-3 start. State Champs

It’s kinda like another Shelby fan said.

I can give you 19 reasons as to
why Shelby can afford to get off to
a slow start.

Come on BY.
Can’t you do better than copy Packman’s trademark. I’ve roughed him up a few times, too.
Have a comment of substance.
Tell us about you 3-0 start. Is that why you are strutting?
Tell us about your “transfer” QB.
Where did he come from?
You so often comment on Richmond County, it has us feeling you are a Raider wanna be.
What’s up with that?
Is it because your last Title time was 37 years ago and the Magic’s was only 14 years ago?
And the last time Forest Hills football was a topic around here was when Burns went down there in a playoff game, defeated you, and then wooped the tar out of your mascot bee and a dang riot erupted.
Were you there for that? Or are you a relative newcomer?
Come on, BY. Let’s here it.

Not so fast my friend.
At the end of the 1972 season, the 13-0 State Champion Golden Lions were chosen as the #1 team in the state. Across all classifications and all rival Associations.
That was the way it was decided for years in many other states as well. A vote of the AP where and when there was not a single, one governing body and playoff system.
Hate to bust your bubble.
And you were so gleeful.

50 years ago? Come on old timer, I respect you loyalty and passion, but 50 years ago. I get trashed for speaking 10 years ago about SWO curb stomping Shelbyville in the title game.... 50 years ago most these posters wasn't even born..... I still believe they will right the ship and win the title, but relax and drink a few cold ones my guy. It's okay...

Glad you’re entertained.
But no, you certainly don’t live in our head.
You are just the most recent to challenge Shelby’s dominance. There have been dozens just like you And you won’t be the last.
That is why we come on these boards to regularly give historical and factual data to support our claim. New folks join in here every day. And we keep winning titles.
The long time posters here have heard it until they are sick of it. We understand that.
But we rarely start it.
We didn’t start this thread. Notice that?
We respond.
And we will continue to do so as social media today will run right over you and dismiss history overnight. We will not let that happen.

We would like to know more about you.
Nothing private or personal.
Just your story. How you have formed your opinions, etc. What authority or credentials make you worthy of us or anyone caring what you have to say.
Now you can be another secret agent man and pontificate on all subjects related to high school football (like someone else we know, b…..), yet never reveal what sound credentials or objectivity you bring to the table. We don’t really need another one of those here.

Hope that helps you, and others understand us better.

One could say last year Shelby was the best team in the state of North Carolina. Langston Wertz and fellow sports writers voted them as the best team in the Charlotte area. Only loss being to SC 4A state champ South Pointe Rock Hill. Could Shelby have beat Gibbons? Quite possibly.

4a and 1a are cons
Based on?

2A is extremely competitive within 2A
3A within 3A

But some would consider 4A the easiest to win a championship in as there are usually only about 4 or 5 teams across the state that have a chance so 2 will knock 2 out in the playoffs so you really only have to win maybe 2 meaningful playoff games.

Your 4A bias prompting it as the all powerful football classification led you to make that statement.
4a and 1a have the biggest disparity.
Look at the enrollment difference in those two classes by percentages.

Let's assume you're right and only four or five teams have a realistic shot in 4A. Wouldn't that imply it's the most difficult to win on average for most schools?

How to encourage someone to seek mental help?
  • Let the person know that you need to have an important conversation.
  • Pick a good time and a quiet place without other distractions.
  • Approach the person with empathy and consider using a phrase such as “If I didn’t care about you, we wouldn’t be having this talk.”
  • Be prepared for the person to be upset, but try not to get defensive.

Your comebacks have become increasingly weak like the program you support. I guess this is why you immediately jump to name calling and bashing. You have no football related thing to say back.

We are still on top like we have been for the past 60, 70, years and will be for the next 60, 70.

We are still on top like we have been for the past 60, 70, years and will be for the next 60, 70.
I think you're all idiots and Trolls. I call them like i see them. Nothing you say is football related. It's a bunch of bias trash. Outside of that little 2A trophy, you guys never talk about the kids getting a free education to play at the next level for allegedly playing for the best team in the State. Why is that? You don't really care about that part. Why does your championships not match scholarships? Do they take those little dynasty trophies to get jobs. Nope! Life happens.

That is the Sweet 16 poll. It is not apower poll or based on hypothetical matchups but how the teams does in their respective classification as compared to other teams in their classifications. Example: 1A Albemarle being ranked along with Independence 2001-2003 and having high rankings a few other seasons they won 1AA state titles.

The gist of what I'm trying to get across is that Shelby for sure has a great program. But, overall the talent level doesn't match up with the best teams in the State and this is why Shelby fans get backlash for being so outspoken about them being the best.

You have to BEAT the BEST to BE the BEST.

If you were more humble in your approach, then people would probably be more open to what you're trying to get across.

Great program, yes. Great teams, according to national ratings, no. Best teams in the State, no.

4 players projected to be drafted 2023: Grant Gibson, Ryan Jones, Trent Simpson & Eric Douglas

Just a few players from our weak program (Mallard Creek) currently on college & professional rosters. School opened in 2007 with over 150 college graduates from the Football program. Google the players listed, they're all active. I left out about 30. You'll never ever, be able to accomplish that level of collegiate success for the next 60 to 70 years. You guys remind me of Slave owners on Django. Brag about your guys, than give them a BEER = 2a Trophy afterwards. How about get your Asses off of NCPREPS and help those kids with some Academics, so you can up the number of kids playing on Saturday. Your percentage of kids going to college is horrific, for the Alleged True Dynasty. If we're weak, every school in the State is screwed.

OUCH! :) Is this football related enough for you? :) YES! You're still Trash & Imbecile's, All 4 of you!
