Campbell would have been at the top of their list. Thank God we hired him last week. I’m just wondering if they already have a big fish, though. I don’t think they would’ve done it at this point without a big fish. They’ll probably wait a couple weeks and go through a phony search.
Heard that if/when they fired Sherrone that Campbell was very high on their list as well. Thank God PSU hired Campbell before then

Just a rumor, but apparently Michigan has known about this for weeks. I have to wonder if he beat OSU....would the school reacted this forcefully? You never see the level of transparency about the "for cause" aspect of a termination at this level.
If they beat Ohio State and make the playoff, we likely don't find out now but either way I think they wanted him gone and this was their free pass to do so

So on Friday morning I am texting with a buddy of mine who is pretty high up at Penn State. We are talking about how poorly this situation has been handled and that if we don't find a coach soon it could set us back years. While we were texting, the news broke that we hired Campbell and my feelings about the state of PSU football changed instantly. Now reading this thread I am having a similar experience. Things are looking so much better for us and things definitely seem like they are heading in the right direction and the timing of this thing with Michigan is terrible (for them!). So many sought after coaches have been extended or hired already, one would assume players will start decommiting and transfering, and they have much less time to get a coach before the transfer period. It's amazing how things can change so quickly!

While I doubt they fabricated the "story" to can him.
I do believe he was on borrowed time at UMich regardless (and UMich ain't sorry to see him go). He was in way over his head as a HFBC at Michigan (FWIW, their 9-3 this year was very illusory - they got skunked by the 3 decent teams they played, and played down to mediocre competition most of the rest of the year. That was not a good team).
Another spontaneous hire that the players wanted….those rarely work out.

There was an anonymous tip that can in the last 24-48 hours so I would not believe the "known for the past few weeks." Their goal of having someone in place by Jan 2nd also wouldn't support that premise.

And imagine them waiting until after signing day. Clearly just a misunderstanding.

for cause Relations with a staff member
ROTFALMAO: College football just keeps on giving. We get an awesome hire ND decides to put their heel on their own noots then the Cheatigan HC gets caught ramming a staff member. What other wonderful thing can happen before Christmas, early gifts for sure.
