@cornerrat, what's up with that run defense? If Montini can make it to NIU we could see a 120 point game if SHG can't cover the run. Obviously SHG can score, but what's up on D?

Don't know if it should even be referred to as "defense"!! Seriously, last season"s LB core was arguably one of the best in years. This season's is definitely not equal that, so I think that is a lot of it. In addition, the wing-T was something the Cyclones have not seen all year. While they did handle it fairly well the second half, I do believe run defense overall can be something which will keep them from getting to Dekalb. After all, Rochester's 175 lb. RB gained 150 yards on them, and I understand the teams that they may face in getting to the championship game have well above average running backs. Not a good formular for success for an average run defense.

All.... As Hinterland alluded to SHG's defense is a bit different then last year, but still gave up fewest points in the CS8. The bulk of the points coming against Eisenhower and Rochester in comfortable wins by the Cyclones.

Peoria (Notre Dame) is a different beast, similar to Peoria (Richwoods) in their hay days. Built to burn clock up on offense. Quite proficient in blocking, running trap and counters short gains mostly sprinkled in with longer gains. A pain in the a$$ for a teams defense.

But falling behind with an offense like that is death. Once SHG got up on the Irish they were done. PND continued that slow burn up the clock methodical offense they were trained to do because the passing game is not what they are all about.

I don't really see any other teams like that left in 6A and at the moment am focused strictly on Crete. But if they or anyone else ( should SHG advance) feel the Cyclones can be beat strictly by attacking the defense with the run, well .... go for it. Ratsy
