Shimmer of hope? Miles several years ago.......

Remember about 5 years ago when L. Miles down at LSU was making some really stupid mistakes that cost them some games? He's corrected that part of his game now and I even think gave some of the clock management duties to an assistant coach to help remind him... at least I think I remember reading that a few years ago.

Yes Miles had a lot more experience but if there is a shimmer of hope for Stoops its that you can learn from your mistakes and get better.

Granted if I had my way, we'd dump Stoops and offer 4 million a year to the memphis or houston coach (probably because it would take 4 million a year just to lure them to this dumpster program) But since thats not going to happen with choir boy Mitch Barnhart...... we have to find the rays of hope in order to stay sane

thats true, and a great point. but im not sure stoops even sees a problem, its a late half meltdown every week. after the past few weeks, what we did before half against is inexcusable.

I hear you but Les Miles has been to a bowl game every year since he got to LSU (10 years running). He has been at or above .500 (in the SEC) every year except for one. Don't know that I take much solace re: Mark Stoops by looking at the past history of Coach Miles.

It's fairly obvious his point isn't to compare the careers or results of Stoops and Miles, but only to make the point that someone showing similar problems was able to correct the situation. Or maybe I'm crazy.....

I think too much is going on right now for changes to get made... The man is too damn stubborn. But Im sure when he thinks on it after the season.... it will nag at him enough to change some things and work on the coaching mistakes.

Take a look at ours and their resumes and tell me how you expect our program to be run with HS quality coaches. You see major programs dishing money out and bringing in good coaches. I was actually thinking about that the other day. Those clock issues.

Les found a fall guy, terminated him, and LSU seems to have turned a corner. (Of course, LSU had also won a National Championship under miles, prior to those goofs).

CMS needs to find the fall guy. And then, he still needs to take a good long look in the mirror.

OK, we have determined the inmates have taken over the asylum and Les Miles has attended the Tom Jurich masters program of how to win in college football.

Besides, LSU has a built in recruiting base hard to overcome: Angola.

I can tell some people here are acting like I'm comparing Stoops and UK to Miles and LSU in terms of success. I'm clearly not doing that. No matter how much talent you have...... coaching mistakes are coaching mistakes.. Its universal from high school to the NFL. A few years ago Miles was making bone head mistakes with time outs , game management ... going on 4th down in stupid situations... etc. Some of the same mistakes Stoops is making.

There are a lot of aspects to the coaching that will take Stoops a while to correct with experience... but the bone headed mistakes that we've been making recently are correctable with just a better sense of organization.

Am I making it more clear as to what I was talking about?

Oh I knew exactly what you was saying. I was just pointing out he also had guys on is staff to help guide him with their experience. Stoops doesn't.
Also look how that staff was built ours isn't remotely close

Absolutely. ..... I completely agree. ..... Is it too much to ask for Bob Stoops be let go at OU and get him on our staff for a year or two before he goes elsewhere? LoL

Mack Brown had notable career success at North Carolina before receiving an offer to be the Texas Longhorns head coach. Mack was one of the best recruiters in the business plus he walked the walk and talked the talk similar to the revered Darrell Royal. Texas fans believed the Messiah had arrived.

While was a ace recruiter, he was not a particularly good coach. He was, however, a seasoned veteran in the coaching business. He hired Gene Chizik as his offensive coordinator and Will Muschamp as defensive coordinator. Mack was in business and the winning began.

Great management begins with a manager smart enough to hire assistants whose value is support the manager and be the team that develops success at the highest level.

Mark does have a good staff though Neal Brown left for a head coaching position, Brad Peveto left for LSU special teams coach and right away the coaching staff was requiring replacements. That is disruptive when two of your most important coaches leave. Add to those issues the fact top coaches are not exactly beating down your door for employment.

At the end of the day, Mark has one of the most difficult jobs in college football and plays in the most difficult conference other than the NFL. We should perhaps give Mark a little slack and support. He is our only hope Obi Wan Kenobi.

Miles hires the best of the best...

I mean half his staff has HC experience...In addition to those names listed above, I'm pretty sure Steve Kragthorp still helps out in some capacity...

That is absolutely what Stoops needs to do...

there are plenty of guys out there...Hell you got Guy Morris right here in Kentucky coaching HS...get his *** on staff...go get Sylvester Croom...maybe Frank Beamer would like a little retirement gig...find out what Randy Shannon is making at Florida and offer him 20% more...Al Golden needs a job...Tommy Bowden is out there somewhere and was the OC here a coon's age ago...Norm Chow could be QB coach and/or skill position assistant, the list of guys he's coached and developed is pretty impressive...June Jones is out there...if Mark Richt gets canned CMS, Mitch, and Joe Craft need to fly down on Cal's jet and help him with the move...

I agree with having a lot of coaches out their looking for work many of these guys have been successful in their profession and have a lot of knowledge and connections to Juco's, HS's and academies where we can get sec level players.

You shell out the money and they will listen to ur offer.

Years ago someone from ND told me in football that the head coach needs to be the best recruiter on the staff / PR man and the OC and DC needs to be the best coaches and making both sides of the ball work.
The head coach is the closer with recruits and the recruiting coordinator and position coaches actually get the kids all excited about coming. finally meeting the head coach in the end and when they meet the coach will tell them how they are needed and they need his commitment cause their are 4 others that are wanting that spot right now but your holding it for you to decide before it's given to them.

Heard that years ago but I'm sure it's still the same today.
