Part of the reason our inside game is struggling is because teams are just packing and clogging up the lane on us. Last year when they did that, our shooters struggled to hit shots consistently. This year we have knock down shooters that are feasting right now off that style of packing it in the middle defense. That makes this team nearly impossible to stop. To me the outside shooting is much more encouraging than the inside woes are discouraging. The inside game will come around. Our bigs are too good. I will say though, at times our rebounding has disappointed me a little bit, given our size and athleticism.
Randle was was well. Double teamed, he could get through and up and in.Originally posted by UKDC80:
Part of why I loved Big Cuz. He could score in the post all day. I love guys like that. Okafor is that kind of player also.Crazy thing is most of our bigs who aren't great post moves get constantly double teamed which we should make people pay for with Ulis, Booker and A Harrison on the perimeter. Totally agree!! There is always an important role for knock down shooters in any level of basketball. In college, you almost have to have a couple of great shooters to win the championship. The Wall/Cousins team was just one knock down shooter away from winning a championship (i.e., Jodie Meeks). The lack of a consistent shooter finally caught up with them.Originally posted by CUT-NETS:

Yes, and although it didn't look good early (i think we were shooting like 28% from three at one point) this team apparently can stroke it.
Cal has FINALLY brought in a class of SHOOTERS. Booker, Ulis, Lyles, and Towns can all knock it down from their respective spots. THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE and why I believe this team is so good. Cal is an amazing recruiter, goes without saying, and he brings in mega-classes year after year but he typically never gets the shooters (Lamb, Knight, Wiltjer the exceptions). Our teams always lack at least one to two more shooters in order to win the title.
Not this year. This year the biggest difference outside of sheer depth is the freshmen class being able to shoot. I firmly believe that.
Ulis actually was sick during some his missed games not sure about Booker.Originally posted by LineSkiCat:
We were without Ulis for Columbia and EKU and Booker missed Columbia as well (and was still hobbled for EKU) . Those were 2 of the 3 worst 3pt shooting outings of the year.
The only thing I can't recall is if they got injured during the Texas game. Because combined, they went 0-4 from the three..
Aside from our season opener, Texas, Columbia, and EKU were Kentucky's worst three point shooting performances. Pretty easy to see why.

Lyles and Towns will hurt you from deep too!Originally posted by BoulderCat:
I think our opponents looked at the stats and the game recordings, and figured their best shot was making us shoot from the outside. They just didn't realize that we've got 3 guys, especially Booker of course, who can fill it up from the 3 line. This team has so many players you just can't take away everything.
I have always thought we were going to be a good shooting team. The question is can we keep this up ? Cal is a very good and if there is a game that out shots are not drooping then we will go inside more. This is a fun team to watch.Originally posted by Wernicke Korsakoff:
This was supposed to be our weakness. What happened to our inside game?
I think the total miss count was 2 games for Ulis. Booker missed one as well, but was also wearing a knee brace and was hobbled for an additional game or so. No surprise that those games we had atrocious 3pt shooting.Originally posted by Poetax:

Idk how any UK fan could have thought that, with the way Booker, Ulis, and even Aaron Harrison can stroke it from 3 when on.Originally posted by CUT-NETS:
Bottom line, shooting is still key. You can have a team full of the best athletes to ever walk the earth, but shooting is the equalizer.
I mean it when I say that this may be the best class Cal has ever reeled in and its because all players (Booker, Lyles, Ulis, Towns) can shoot. Name another class where all the players coming in could shoot. There is not one.
Again, aside from depth, the biggest difference this season is that our incoming freshmen are shooters. Thats why we are so good. Shooting.
And Ill be the first to admit, when we were in that 2-3 game shooting slump, i was afraid that Cal had done it again in not getting any shooters. But that was not the case.
