Crime…specifically gun violence at the level we’re seeing now…..has not always existed in this country. To throw up our hands amd say there’s nothing we can do is absurd. We’ve tried almost nothing.

Well it starts with funding the police departments. You have to have not only their presence on the streets, but you have to have the support of the community leaders & community.. It takes a team & for the whole team to apply the system properly that is in use..

Once that starts happening, you start taking the criminals off the streets & locking them up, keeping them incarcerated for their crimes. It’s really not punishment, but more so accountability…

Like With anything, you have to have accountability or there is no integrity or trust. You have to set a standard & abide by it.

You do the crime, You will do the time… You knew what the penalty was & you made the decision…. It’s really simple as that…

For those that may say prison & locking them up isn’t a/the solution, then would you please tell us all how to fix a problem that has been present, with many tried solutions, which now seem to be making the issue worse?

A lot of it has to do with the environment people live in. People often end up incarcerated because of a lack of opportunity and a bad environment. Then they get out and go right back into that same environment that was bad for them to begin with.

There are a lot of programs out there to help people find a better future that are effective. ONE Lexington is the initiative sponsored by the local government. They have many quality options for people in tough spots. https://www.lexingtonky.gov/index.php/one-lexington

This was about 10 years ago, but a hotel I worked at was hosting an AAU team from Memphis. Penny Hardaway was the main guy but he wasn't traveling with the team. I was chatting with the coach one night and he said he loved it but the hardest part of the job was keeping the kids out of trouble. He said most of them were pretty much taught from the day they were born that they'd never amount to anything so either welfare or drugs were the only way to make a living. Damn shame. These were all freshmen and sophmore aged kids.

I grew up in a pretty sheltered environment. But through my military service, now business ownership, and my wife's work at UK hospital, I have seen more. Its pretty insane what some people get exposed to.
