Ok, I know coach Stoops is not going anywhere. No, he will not be fired even though he has proven that he is not head coach material. This is what you get when you hire a coach with no head coaching experience. But we are stuck with him for a while. That said, it seems to me that we should have some hope that the administration is at least looking over the field to start trying to figure out who might be available at the end of next season when hiring a new coach will be unavoidable. So from that, who would make the list?

Idk how much is Stoops and how much is the fact we need really coordinators...not just recruiters.

I know he just retired...but I would call Frank Beamer and write a blank check for him and his staff...

If he said no...I would call Mike Leach...

If he said no...Will Muschamp...

Sonny Dykes, Houston Nutt, Ed Orgeron, Jim Tressel (I know he's the Pres of Younstown)...Bo Pelini...Mike Shula...Butch Davis...Randy Shannon...maybe Mark Richt will be available by then...Greg Schiano...

Hell, I'd call Mack Brown...

Mario Cristobal...Pep Hamilton...Lane Kiffin...Jeff Brohm...Jake Spavital...Tom Herrman...Brent Venables...DJ Durkin...Scott Frost...

Could add Chip Kelly if things don't work out in Philly. Tressel will make the short list should this actually happen.

I wouldn't poo poo Muschamp off so quickly...that florida team he had a hand in building is undefeated right now...

He is one of the top defensive coaches in the country...

He'd have the HC experience...wouldn't be the pressure of following Meyer and Tebow...

he'll be an HC again some day...

It would be a very short list since there's some doubt anyone would salivate over taking the job.

Mike Leach might well take the job, he is a hell of a coach who has proven he can do more with less, we have pieces in place for him to work with, and he's only 54 years old - plenty young enough to build thing and sustain it a while.

Mike Leach should be the only 1 on there

DJ Durkin is the most intriguing name on that list.

I would love to see us hire Jim Tressell. He got a bad deal at tOSU. It's pretty obvious to me every college team in America probably has a tattoo guy or gal that takes care of the players. He should not have gotten that stiff of a penalty IMO.

You really think Tressell did nothing wrong? I think every team has someone handing out tats to players, but I don't think everyone is covering up and lying to the NCAA about it. He assured the NCAA that those players would return the following year and sit out the opener so they could play in their bowl game. Guess what, they didn't. tOSU was paying players, Clarette the RB that led them to a title. He won some games, but I think the only game against an SEC team was the bowl game when he played the 5 who were supposed to be suspended for accepting improper benefits, not exactly a good thing for a coach in the SEC.

I would take a look at the Memphis coach Fuentie. the guy only took over the worst program in the country and with in 3 years had them in top 10 with whispers of sneaking into the playoff.

has a QB that had Patrick's mentality and turned the young man into a NFL QB. he would be a great get.

and why is everyone hung up on Leach? I'm not a big fan of his. do not like his personality or the fact that the guy has never even played the game. he has had some bad losses at Washington St. he also throws his kids under the bus. after all that went down at Tech I just can't stomach the arrogant know it all.

let's get a people guy who can actually coach. a lot of good names at home or waiting on a 2nd chance out their. a lot better then Leach.

Lane Kiffin has proved at a couple of schools with a tradition of winning that he is not a good head coach. Why should Kentucky give him a chance to prove that he can't be a head coach at a school without a tradition of winning?

He just interviewed or is scheduled to interview for the Maryland job. I don't think he is a great head coach, but he is a good offensive coach, great recruiter, may have been too young for a head coaching position when he got it, might have learned, then again might not have. But hard to argue he hasn't made Bama a better offensive team. Thing about him is he would bolt for the west coast as soon as 1 of 6-7 schools contacted him.

Being realistic, I would go after Dino Babers. Offensive minded guy, has won big at 2 schools now. He might be my first call.

We going to have this conversation for two years? Have you seen that contract? Stoops is here at least 5 seasons before he will be let go. That is just reality.

Contract or not I still say Stoops is here 5 years. If he beats Louisville, something I highly doubt, it can almost be guaranteed.
