Should football have it's on AD?

Basketball has Dwayne Peevy and he does a great job. Why not football. FWIW Freddie Maggard would kick *** in that position.

Big time schools that think outside the box create all kinds of positions that get certain people in their program to help out by bringing their connections. Look at Alabama and how many former head coaches are asisstants or "special" whatevers to that program, and they are adding Sarkisian too.

Yes, I would love for football to have an Associate AD whose job is to oversee football. I believe that Dermontti Dawson would be great at it if he wanted the job.

Most serious schools also have something like a "high school relations" assistant. UK could also use everything that can be thoughtfully conceived.

What about women's soccer? Bowling? Baseball?

Opens too many doors.

What about them? What do football powerhouse schools do who have these positions? Barnhart covers women's soccer and baseball...

Not sure the term 'football powerhouse schools' is appropriate when talking about UK.

Hey, why not give it shot? Nothing else has really worked over the long term. I'll forward this thread topic link on to Mitch and see what he says

FWIW, Mitch was hired to be a football AD ... this is a guy that got Oregon State a blowout win over Notre Dame in a BCS bowl.

Original critique of his was that he didn't know anything about basketball.

it's a point I've made frequently. Barnhart was a "football guy". Another interesting thing was he hired Dennis Erickson at OSU, which led to that brief success and BCA win. Erickson, of course, had his own troubled history - and I vividly recall Sean McDonough losing his mind over the way those thugs were treating those poor saintly boys from Notre Dame. All the taunting and what not. It's a vivid contrast with the way MB is commonly perceived here.....

Dwayne Peevy doesn't have his own budget, can't hire and fire coaches...still has to answer to his boss and his boss's bosses..and he is involved in all 22 sports at UK, not just basketball.

I agree that Peevy does a great job...but how many things can you name that Peevy actually does?

Freddie Maggard, Dermontti Dawson, Derrick Ramsey would be far better than we've got.I mean how would you feel about Barnhart hiring another coach ? Joker, Stoops, Gillispie. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me 4 times shame on me.

Wasn't Tim Couch part of the interview process with Stoops?

Wasn't Freddie all in on the hire? ...as well as other former UK football studs?

Were you one of the crowd that welcomed and cheered over the hiring of Billy Clyde? I also recall that most were pretty positive when Joker was named HCIW...Joker was are lead recruiter and most reasoned that having Joker as HC would lead to better recruiting. UK had just finished back to back 8 win seasons and saw Joker as a part of that. Only after UK "slipped" to only 7 wins the next 2 years did anyone question the move.

The idea that because someone played the game at any level makes them better able to identify who will or will not be a successful coach is simply never proven to be true. There have been 10 football coaches hired at UK in the past 60 years...none have really been successful, Brooks (hired by Mitch) has been the only one to string together 4 consecutive winning season.

I also remember TEN YEARS of BARE MINIMUM support for football. And do I really need to elaborate, go ahead if you need the reminder.

That's not the point. You said that it would "open too many doors because of women's soccer, bowling, and baseball". Welp, then what do actual powerhouse schools that really do have Associate ADs solely over football do about "women's soccer, bowling, and baseball"?

Why can other schools have them, but not UK?

If fuzz is here I know one thing. He's going to be an apologist for any and everything. It's like the guy goes around backing anything he supports, right or wrong, and is usually wrong, so he spends his time apologizing and making excuses religiously.

I don't have to read one of his post to know he's probably backing Mitch, stoops, etc. how many times has he apologized yet?

Only saw his name and read no more. But I know I'm right.
