First off I want to prefice this by saying I've been a Gamecock fan for 33 years. Ive grown up watching and going to the games. I've been very active here on GC on my dad's account for 20 years. I've been through the Brad Scott era, the Holtz , Spurrior, and Muschamp eras. Here we are now in the Beamer era, and i love him as a head coach for us. This is now going to take a turn, because story time is over now and our playoff hopes have ended mostly because of an Offensive Coordinator by the name of Mike Shula.
Why the heck do we have satterfield jr out there at OC?!?! We have had 5 games under shula, and 5 major disappointments. The players look confused out there, the communication looks off, the designs look over complicated. The actual play calls are horrible, and the thing is, not much has changed from last year player wise either. We lost rocket, lee, and simon mainly. When shula took the helm in the illinois game the magic was gone. Our receivers are more developed this year vs last year. We have decent TE to replace simon, sul is a beast. We just need a competent, proven, experienced COLLEGE offensive coordinator. Not one of these NFL hooligan to come to college to run NFL schemes.
What in the world is up with the play design and play calling. This is COLLEGE FOOTBALL not the NFL. Shula has bottled Lanorris Sellers, removed his QB running plays, and looks like he got the scramble mentality out him. Its good hes developed as a pocket passer, but again, mike shula is coaching him to be an NFL QB. The problem is, Lanorris is not an NFL QB, hes an NFL calibur COLLEGE QB. He has completely lost the thought to scramble, that's what made him so dynamic so why bottle him up?? Let him cook! We havent seen him use his legs really but to get out of bounds.
To touch on a couple of plays, our first TD was a heads up play from lanorris for seeing the flag and going long. My question for that play is this, did Jacobs have the same thought? Did he see the flag and just run deep, or was that the route he was supposed to run?
There was a screen play we ran that we had 7 blockers, and they rushed either 4 or 5 defenders and swamped us. Our guys were running around in the backfield by design while the defenders plowed through the line. I havent gone back and rewatched it but i didnt see who the screen was set up for it looked botched.
What are we running at the 2 yard line losing 15 yards?!?!?! Again, horrible! Lanorris's feet looked glued while he got clobbered. Why are we dropping back right there?
Guys, what happened when Beamer put a fire under satterfield and told him to simplify his horrific NFL playbook, does anyone remember? WILLIAMS BRICE RAN OUT FIREWORKS. So why are we letting a lesson learned from satterfield be retaught with a new face on shula.
This falls back on Beamer, he needs to hold his coaches more accountable. The last time shula came to the NCAA, he inherited and dropped the ball with a talented alabama team. Shula is currently working on repeating that as OC here in south carolina. Shula needs to go. He has no place in the NCAA as history has shown and is being reshown. We will not see success with shula designing and calling plays for this offense. We need Beamer to do his job now, take responsibility for this horrible hire, and find us an OC that can do the job.
