We obviously have no idea where the Briles' offense is going after just one game vs Kent State. However, Shula's offense produced 16 TDs across 9 games. We have 8 in one game so far under Briles.

Is it time to celebrate? No. Can we safely assume the offense is ahead of where it was last year at this time? Yes.

Definitely interested in how the offense does against SEC teams.

Did anyone really trust the Shula hire? I didn't like it, but i chose to trust those in the building saw things i didn't. I was grossly wrong for that trust. Briles has never fielded an offense outside of the top 90. I think his lowest one was in the 70s, and that was his first and quest year at TCU iirc. He had nothing to work with on the roster. Shula squandered a great roster that put more up with no OC than he out to against SCSU, and Sellers confidence was shattered by then and he did nothing in the second half against TAMU. I can't even perceive of the possibility we don't improve.

I think as Gamecock fans we are all prepared for things to come gloriously crashing down once SEC play ensues.
Either that, or Briles sets the SEC ablaze and then promptly leaves for another gig at the end of the season. Yes, I've been a Gamecock fan for a lonnng time. :D 😭 :ROFLMAO:

I don't see this as a bad thing. We know our position in college football. If a guy does a good enough job here to be picked up elsewhere, then at least we should enjoy that he did a good job while here.

Just so long as we don't hire another Shula the second we have a little success.

Are you saying Shula is better than Briles? Didn't you agree Briles would be a good HC option?

You should reread my post. Then the quote I was responding to.

First, you'll note that Shula wasnt mentioned in either. That should be your first clue that first question is nonsense.

Wait, so when I said how miserable Shula was, and said that i can't perceive the possibility we don't improve, in the context of Shula vs Briles, the very subject of this thread, you're saying, my post, which you replied to has nothing to do with it?

Sure thing, cupcake.

Regardless of how the rest of the season plays out, I think it’s a good idea to never mention that name again on here for the rest of time.

You're mistake was in reading what was on the screen, then adding "in the context of....".

Now, knowing where you went wrong, go back, read the quote I was responding to. Not what you think it meant or what you think it meant relative to something else going on in the thread. Read JUST what I quoted.

Then read what i said.

If you need to, read it a couple more times.

If you still think this is about Shula, you're exactly as stupid as I think you are.

You're reaching for the wit you think you were using. Because you left the conditional "how we don't improve." Stop riding my jock. Stalker

Exactly as I thought.

I've explained as if to a two year old, and you still insist on not understanding. I hope this is for your online persona and not a condition you suffer from in real life.

If its unfortunately the latter, I can only suggest you read the post again. Read only the post, and dont go inserting your opinion on what it might be referring to. Just read the words.

You're an idiot if you think cutting down on my comment makes you witty. And your behavior is weird and obsessive. Get off my jock.

Just read the words of the post without adding anything to them.

Its just that simple.

I, said I can't perceive of how we don't improve. That's the entirety of my statement and that cant be taken out of the context of the offebse, because that's what is being discussed. I can't be more clear. You're being ridiculous, and obnoxious.

And in the entirety of the times you've visited the free board, do you think thats been the exception, or the norm, or the theme of every single post you make?

(I guess i was wrong, I can describe it even simpler than I was. Maybe crayons are the missing last step.)

I only watched the first half of the game. Maybe it's just me but I didn't see a smooth rythem on offense. I saw a bunch of big hitters but I was expecting Carolina to just run all over Kent State. I know they wore them down in the second half. On defense there were a couple of long runs but overall a shutout. It was great to see all the freshman on the field.

hopefully the offense will continue to play well, as they looked great against Kent State. When comparing Coach Briles and Coach Shula, in my opinion Coach Briles comes across so much better when speaking, very articulate and exceptionally knowledgeable. I remember last season I quickly reached a point where I stopped listening to Mike Shula.

I reached that point after the SC State game.

This. One can only wonder, if rumors be true, if Beamer had an AD like Donatti sooner, what our offense could have been like.
Im sure there is a balance somewhere between staying loyal to your team and being quick to pull the rope and let the underperformers go. Beamer has always struck me as a guy who is fiercely loyal to his guys, but hanging on to people like Teasley, Marcus Satterfield, and Montario Hardesty who clearly were not working out nearly cost him his job here. He also should never have hired Mike Shula. It was clear as day to everyone after that Citrus Bowl against Illinois that he was a bad play caller.

I do believe Donatti did play a part in getting Briles and the other TCU coaches to come here. No idea how big of a role played, but without Donatti I doubt that move happens.

ADs typically want the football coach to be their guy. Beamer's set for life thanks to Ray. And he's not Donati's guy. So maybe. All I have is a feeling. 🤷‍♂️

Being a fan since the 80's I've come to the realization that we will always be an above .500 team in basketball and football. Every so often we will have a great year that exceeds our historical results. I like having coaches that want to be here. Frank Martin wanted to be here but I agree he wasn't a good fit. The current basketball coach doesn't move the needle with me. He can be let go today and I would be fine. Heck I can't even remember his name as I type this.
Beamer wants to be here and if he can provide a competitive team that doesn't look like a bunch of monkeys fn a football I am fine with keeping him.
We keep trying to hire the next big thing to bring us a NC, but that just isn't in our cards.

There was no reason to trust the Shula hire based on the two previous Beamer OC’s and his refusal to fire them. Add to that the refusal to let go of Teasley until midway through last season (which imo was AD induced). The people in the building don’t always see more than anyone else. It was pretty obvious Satterfield needed to go after year one and Teasley should not have been brought back to start last season. But not only did he come back he was given raise. I don’t know what some of the “people” in the building see sometimes.

When Tanner was hired as AD it told me South Carolina was not serious about winning. As long as we're not serious there's a lot of things not in the cards for us.

We are not on the level financially as the title contending teams. Imo, we should be working towards a consistent ranked status, and the occasional great year.

I agree with you in that I also believe Donati was involved in the departure of Lonnie Teasley. I also agree with another post, in that we do not have the benefit of seeing behind the scenes with regards to coaches. I questioned the decision to promote Shula, but thought maybe he played a role with developing Sellers, but as we all witnessed, Shula turned out to be a terrible hire at OC. I am really excited we now have Coach Briles, he comes across as a very competent professional in my opinion. I am really looking forward to this season.
