I just read an article from SI about how Dean Smith instructed his trust to give $200 to every player that was a letter winner that he coached while he was at UNC to use to go out to dinner. It's just another example of the kind of man he was and how much he loved and respected his players.

I have a feeling Michael Jordan and a few others may frame and not cash the check.

I think you're probably right about that. Having something to always remember Dean Smith by will be worth much more to them than the money ever will be.

I think they should cash the check and go to dinner as per Coach Smith's wishes. They should toast him and be thankful they knew him.

I just read an article about the $200 gift from Dean to his former players being looked into as an NCAA rules violation. I think that's ridiculous.

Yes, that is ludicrous. There are enough real violations with UNC to concern the NCAA.

It's his former players with former being the key word. This wasn't promised to them when they were recruited. It was in his will. This will go no where and shouldn't. The academic scandal on the other hand should be priority but it seems as though that is a dying issue. OFC
