My stepson has a student load of around 22K. Wife and I are paying it. She just got a call about Obama's loan forgiveness that sounds too good to be true. She is really excited but I am not sure how legit it is. Thoughts?

Can you be more specific about what route you're considering? Is it the one where you work for a non-profit for awhile and then the debt is forgiven?

It doesn't matter what you answer, I don't have any first hand knowledge, just trying to help shape the conversation so you get your answer.

My stepson does not work for a nonprofit. He is in Taiwan teaching.

What does he teach?
I don't know LUVPOWERFB very well from the Blue Lot or from this board to insert my normal smartassed comments. But rest assured, when I saw Taiwan, I had some doozies I was ready to throw out.

Not entirely sure what you mean by that, but personally, I was not overly impressed with the place when we visited in November. Okay place to visit but I would sure not want to live there. Looked like a fairly bleak existence, to me. No offense intended to any Taiwanese Mountaineers out there.

Does it pay well? Is English his major or is it sceondary?
English was not his major. And yes, considering the cost of living in Taiwan is pretty affordable he is doing pretty well. He is in Taichung, very large city....maybe third largest in Taiwan....and he lives right in the city. He has a girlfriend there so he is happy.
