He a UK legend. He can say whatever the hell he wants. I swear if Rupp were alive some would say he’s a bonehead.

Issel knows more and has more experience in bball than 99% of listers on this board.
Legends are people too. People aren't always right. I am not saying he's wrong either but he's older and played basketball a much different error and I don't think back then they would give up this early in the season. And I don't think Pope has either..

Everybody sees the issues right now - Issel, Givens, Pearl, Norlander, etc. - and yet some fans in our fan base are saying it's just "toxic" fandom to expect more than the product we're seeing on the court right now.

Even with a healthy JQ and Lowe, Michigan State and Louisville would have still beaten us. The reason for this is because we have at least four players - Oweh, JJ, Garrison, and Mo D - who are playing selfishly right now on offense (tell me on what planet is it good for the team for Mo D to take four threes in a game). That's a coaching issue.

Issel is 100% right.

Who gives a **** about that...... That man has forgotten more about basketball than most will ever know..... What the hell does this even have to do with his 100% true analysis of what he is seeing in this team this year!
I think the point is a few of y'all are seeing the legend and disregard behind every legend as a man. Honestly, I think voice in such public disdain when you are highly regarded by the program this early in the season is detrimental. They should come directly if they care that much about the Team boys their concern, but also offer their advice and support.
By the way, not a Dan Issle hater at all. He was my basketball hero, and I had that corner jumpshot of his down to a T. I saw every colonel game that I could and he was by far my favorite player with Louis Dampeer close second.

I think what Dan was furious about what the lack of effort and heart. He had bad games for sure but I never felt like he wasn't giving it his all. These guys just didn't seem to care at all and i'm sure they don't care what he said anyway because these players today won't even know who he even is.

That was a different kind of loss. At that point of the season Duke was clearly better and came out and punched us. I think it was first or second possession and Dakari got a rebound and Zion just took it away from him like he was a child. The team still gave effort.

UL nor Mich St are better than us. We just didn't show. That's what Issel and Mashburn are talking about.
Look, the lack of effort in these two pathetic games is unacceptable. I’ve already said this.
However, Calipari lovers have amnesia, with the no show games he had every year except a couple. He lost to St. Peter’s, Kansas St, and Oakland for God’s Sake. Not to mention numerous other losses against far inferior teams. Louisville and Michigan St aren’t chump change.

Cal sucked at the end but what does that have to do with us sucking so far this season?

Did Issel ever pay back ALL of the 4.5 Million that he stiffed 34 creditors out of to include .....gasp.......family and friends when he filed for bankruptcy?

Flush.

Well, at least Issel only got suspended for four games for yelling that ethnic slur. Dude needs to judge himself, not Pope.

This has nothing to do with Calipari. Except to the people still obsessed with Cal.

Every coach in my lifetime being a UK fan has had terrible losses. That's from Rupp thru Pope. But I have never seen any UK just be a complete no show except for Pope. And it's been several of them. Not just this season. I want Pope to succeed. I thought Barney had finally pulled a rabbit out the hat with this hire.

But he didn't. This was just another failed hire by him. Pope was one of my favorite players here. He doesn't coach like he played. This job is just too big for him at this stage of his career. He is simply not ready for it.

You may find that has something to do with Cal? But I can't see what it would be.

WTF are you babbling about? You haven’t seen no shows except for Pope? Calipari, Gillisipie, Smith, Pitino, Sutton, Hall, and Rupp all had teams that had games where they looked lIke garbage, and with lack of efforts.

It happens to every team, and every coach, every year.

Let‘s give Mark time to grow into the job. It’s going to take him time to learn and adjust.

There’s understandable frustration for a few days after the game and then there’s completely throwing away the team after a few games. Some of the posters have done the latter and it’s honestly ridiculous. I do believe there’s a faction of fake fans from other fanbases on this website and the pessimistic fans have gotten bewitched and there’s no talking reason with them.

How about the Pope nut huggers who think he can do no wrong and lodge personal attacks on Dan Issel for daring to call out this team?

I’m with you on calling that out, and I think you already know that. Someone in this thread making a personal comment about Issel saying a slur — that kind of stuff is personal and has absolutely nothing to do with basketball. And yes I’ve had my endless debates with the people who give no fault to Pope as well. We don’t have to wade in the waters of the extreme on either side. We can be upset about how the team played, without throwing everything away.

No, I get that and the same with Jack and Mashburn. I just think this early in the year I would've liked him to use that disappointment directly with the team and coach instead of so publicly.

Dan is welcome to his opinion. Im not quitting on a coach that is busting his ***, went to the sweet 16 last season with a roster made up of leftover scraps, and has lost two whole games this season while missing two of his top five players. Its fine to have expectations. How about waiting till seasons end to throw down the verdict on this season. People can rip Popes *** for anything they please, but to call for his head is just ridiculous. Ill bet anyone on this board anything they want to bet that Pope takes this team farther than Cal took a team that had two players drafted top 5 overall...albeit off the bench. Who wants some?

I'm sure that went over well.
Relax my friend. You’re a great poster. We’re never going to agree on everything. If we did, it would be really boring. We’re all hardcore Kentucky fans.

And, in fact, it did go over well.

I like Mark Pope, but he has some issues to fix. He's not at BYU anymore. UK isnt a religious university with obligations. I think these last 2 weeks have opened his eyes into what hes gotten himself into. Jmo.
Still don't know why im getting laughed at? You think CMP had to deal with a teammate sleeping with another teammates gf? That doesnt happened in the Mormon community

I hate Cal and hated him for years... Here is the thing about Pope with the age of the NIL it doesn't take a coach 5 years to build a team anymore. Love that Pope played for us but taking those glasses off going from year 1 to year 2 you're supposed to always progress and not regress . So far what we have seen grant it is a little regression. If he can't even show more progression this year like elite 8 or final 4 technically this will be a failure of a year especially what he supposedly spent on this team. He has next year to have us battling for a Championship or it's time to move onto the next coach!
I didn't say I wanted to give him 5 years; I said that's what MANY posters on this board were saying when he was hired and now they want him fired 5 games into season 2.

I believe that he does have to prove himself again and the team does need to move forward this year, but 5 games into this season and playing without some of your big players is WAY too early to throw this season away and call for his head. Let's see how the season progresses before we start trying to fire our new coach.

You don't throw out the baby with the bath water. Losing two big games early in the season (November, no less!) will make nobody happy. Especially considering the lack of effort coupled with poor play that was on display. But if you are ever going to lose 2 games in the regular season, best do it in November, and give yourself every opportunity to correct the problems.

I still have faith CMP and the players will refocus and get it together. The most concerning aspect of all of this for me is how we can end the injury riddled season last year and begin another one like this.

THAT is the core issue for me.

Solve that, get them all out there together on the floor and THEN see what you got, and .... we simply have not seen that (yet) this year. What's more concerning is that there is a possibility of seeing this team continue having players out and we may never get to see what this team would be capable of ... just like last year's squad.

NO room for error moving forward.... thsat's just the way it is...
