He's gonna be a lot closer to the guards on those UConn title teams than their guards this year. Would've been good here too. Oh well. Fair to say that Pope can recruit but isn't a killer yet
He's not super flashy but big guards who can shoot, defend, and get into the paint are what every big program that's chasing titles is after
Gotta be honest. I'm now a little skeptical of Pope's recruiting (or if not that, then skeptical of our AD and NIL situation).. we landed one guy this year, and last year was 10 guys that didn't feel they had a home yet late in the transfer portal, so it wasn't exactly a tough haul.
Id like to see us score a top30 transfer in the next week, when programs are in on said player. I'd like to see us come out on top for someone, and prove that were a desirable landing spot that can spend money.. not land the 60th guy, and not land a bunch of guys who could only dream of playing for a program like Kentucky back in Mid April 2024. Those are fine, but that doesn't really teal me how good of a recruiter Pope is.
Either we missed on a championship level guard or he’s nothing special.
He is a flopper.
We have 1 more top 30 transfer than Kansas, Duke and UNC combined.
His best portal recruit last year played for him for two years previously. I'm not walking to the edge of any cliffs, but I'm also not on board with the "I have faith in Pope" or whatever guys are spewing.
My concern level is 6th inning, 1 run. Not great. We have a lot of ground to make up.
Well Duke is still playing and has like 6 recruits coming in lol.
Kansas is likely looking at a coaching change in 3 years tops. And UNC is in flux. I'm not trying to compare us to those two programs in 2025. Meanwhile Auburn grabbed a guy we wanted and I'm not even sure they're trying to hit the transfer portal yet.
Watching the antics of Hurley, I wonder why any sane man would want to play for him.

Can't say I completely disagree with you. I'm starting to worry, just a little bit. Seems like Pope has trouble sealing the deal for some reason. I'm looking forward to him proving me wrong.
So now all the people who said Demary sucked and wasn't worth the money a few days ago are now acting like the world is ending all over again. Would have been nice to get him but I bet we end up with someone as good or better.
We have blasted Dukies and other floppers for years and now all of a sudden everyone wants one so flopping is okay?
IF the recruiting continues as is, Pope is going to have a below-UK-standards career here. As an off the court person, he's top of the class.
Duke is also in a final 4 more than likely getting ready to win I hate to say it #6. If we don’t get our head out of our @$$ they will have caught us in just a few more years in titles. Like I have said numerous of time I love having Pope as coach but he’s got to show that he can close the deal on these higher ranked portal guys and higher ranked high school guys.
I know it’s not Pope’s fault but we haven’t been to a final 4 what will be 11 years next year. Haven’t won a Championship in what will be 14 years next year. We are falling behind on times here.
I still have a lot of faith, because I think the problem here lies with Mitch and those handling the basketball program as a whole.
But "Off the court" means absolute zilch to me. I don't want Mr. good will. And if that's indeed kind of what we're going to get from Pope, then we have problems.
You say you know it's not Pope's fault for us being in this position but you apparently expect him to turn it completely around in 12 months? Scheyer was handed the reigns of a program that was 100 times better than what Pope was handed and it took him his 3rd year to get to the final four. His first year he made the round of 32, second year was Elite 8 and then Final Four. That was after everyone knowing a year in advance he was going to be the coach because Coach K needed his swan song final hoorah season. So he has really had 4 years to get where he is.
We have the same number of top 30 recurits that Duke does and more than UNC or Kansas according to 24/7 sports.
Don't play that game lol. Don't be the Louisville fans who tried to say that Peyton Siva was on the same level as John Wall. Duke has 3 guys higher ranked than our top player.. it's not the same. They have true game-changing talent, not only in their recruits, but likely in some of their returnees.
No what I expect next season ( Pope’s 2nd season) is that we finish the season better than what we did this season and that was the sweet 16. I know in order to do that you have to upgrade the talent from what we had this season. What worries me is we are seeing all the portal talent fly off as fast as it’s coming in. Not a 1 coming for UK ( I know they got the kid from Tulane Williams) and of course the 3 freshmen but most were Kentucky boys minus top 30 Lewis. I want to see him be able to close a guy like Ament ( top 5 of the class) . I mean to compete you still need studs just look at the teams left in the final 4.
Dent and the kid that committed to Baylor were pretty high up there.

Hey, if you want to sit here and finesse the numbers so it looks like our recruiting class is on par with Dukes (I wonder why you picked 30 as the cut off line lol).. have it at. I will await your meltdown this time next year when our talent is lacking a lot of the big name programs.
Duke is the only team in the final four that had what people would call "studs" coming in. Nobody would have classified Broome, Baker Mazara, Clayton, Condon or anyone on Houston as a stud out of high school or the portal.
I picked 30 because that was the original goal post you set (see post below) but you keep moving it for some reason. Oh you may be waiting a while because I didn't have meltdowns this year because I have realistic expectations.

He went all in on him and a lot others and lost. I don’t think popes lifestyle and who he is connects with the kids he needs a there’s a cultural gap not to mention he’s too laid back. I want to see what happened before judgement but we may lose Oweh and have a less talented team than last year. I’m on board with pope but tentatively. Getting blown out and not showing up for UT that was not a good way to end the season and now this
