If there is any good that can come out of this wretched game it is that Luke will become our starting QB. Even Frost cannot be so blind as to not see this. Or can he?

Martinez is NOT the answer. Frost has ridden him as far as you can, given him every chance but it’s a colossal fail! This loss sucks because we could have easily won that game. Instead it was stupidly blown with plenty of help from bad QB play

Reminds me of when a change was made to Crouch back in the day. I hope the situations mirror themselves.

I couldn’t stand AM staring down his one read and taking forever to throw it. He just can Process plays fast enough.

Also, we saw Fleming a lot. Betts was in there as well catching passes. Marvin Scott running the ball. I think those were some silver linings.

Not likely to matter as long as Frost is “calling” plays and running out Warner, Liewer, and Falck.

You can see why Frost is enamored with Martinez when he gets into the open field and makes a couple guys miss. But now we have enough evidence to see that the mistakes, lack of accuracy, and lack of want-to are not worth it. If Martinez was a lot tougher, he would be a good RB candidate.

Yes. Plus Betts and Manning. And on defense guys like Heinrich, Farmer and Reimer.

It time to move forward with these talented young guys. Some of these guys made more plays today than guys like Warner and Miller have in years.

Silver lining is that our playmakers and ballers are the young guys. The experienced guys are the ones effing up assignments, getting dumb penalties, etc. What worries me the most is our staff and their inability to make adjustments (roster and play calling) in an efficient manner. By the time they do, the momentum has completely shifted and we’re playing catch up.

If the Huskers ever get another Qb with the last name Martinez can they start him one year and then make him enter the Transfer Portal.

You can't tell from most TV angles if the receiver is open.

If you're talking about one play in particular, QB should not throw if his feet are not set. But he had to move to his right. Trying to throw when you're feet are not set could result into tripping and fumbling. Go in your backyard and try it.

Martinez just does not have any "football smarts" and continues to have major brain farts at critical moments. Last year against Iowa for example running out of bounds and stopping the clock. I know junior high quarterbacks who would have had more sense than that. And today, besides his inaccurate passes two plays stand out. One, toward the end of the first half when we are working against the clock to at least get into field goal range he takes off running and is one yard from the first down line and decides to slide. No first down and clock keeps running. I don't care that he was trying to protect his body - - this is football and sometimes even a QB needs to take a hit to gain a critical yard in a close game. Then of course, was his interception in the end zone when we were already in field goal range and there was no need to force a pass. Even Frost knew at the moment that he had to come out of the game. He should have made that decision sooner. Martinez needs to sit. He is never going to change. He is just a different version of Tommy Armstrong.

Tommy Armstrong was much better than AM. Let's give TA his credit.

Adrian still scares me when he is carrying the ball in the open field. He is always one punch away from fumbling

I think you might be right. Armstrong wasn't a pansy and he would not have slid when he needed one yard for a first down.

I would many QBs the benefit of the doubt and say they don't know exactly where the first down marker exactly is.
When they are running at full speed.

TA was a warrior. AM looks like a tentative freshman 100% of the time. He should move into the backup role at this point.

If we are going to have a kid out there making first year mistakes, might as well be a first year player -- not s third year starter.

I would say let’s put him at running back but we can’t afford a poor man’s Dan Alexander on this team.

Let’s be real. Frost and Verduzco completely ruined Martinez. He has never looked as good as he did game 1 of his career and when he got over his knee injury in year 1.

No reason to think Scott Fraud will not ruin Mcaffrey either.

Martinez plays scared. It looks to me like he does not want to get hit. Even when he makes a long run his tendency is to run out of bounds before getting hit. And he also slides when he should push ahead. Luke reminds me of Crouch and Frost - - he does not shy away from taking a hit. You can't be stupid and reckless of course but this is a contact sport and not the NFL where quarterbacks make 100 million a year to throw the ball and not run it. In college football your quarterback cannot be a pansy.

Have to say that Amart's long pass on 3rd down (3&18?) into the flat for a 5 yard gain where 2 guys were ready to stop him, it had me screaming at the sky. What's the point?

It could be to not throw a pick or get sacked for a loss. Just brainstorming.

I've been as big a defender of Martinez as anyone, hoping that he would turn the corner. But it's time for a change. We're going nowhere with the inaccuracy that he has with his throws. It's getting worse. He just doesn't hit open receivers or place balls where a receiver can make a play on them. Either give Luke a chance to grow or hell, I'm ready to see what Smothers has also.

Now, none of that talks about the terrible play calling. Bad.

The problem is McCaffrey will likely not stay healthy throughout the season, especially if he runs the ball 10-15 times per game. He still looks like he weighs about 180 pounds soaking wet.

Ok, I watched plays over and over the last two years and said what I saw and got blasted for it. Everyone wanted to blame his soph problems on injuries. Neglecting to realize the "injury" came late against Purdue and it was his left shoulder.

Adrian simply does not see and process the field well. Over and over I reran plays where guys were wide open sitting down in a zone right in front of him. He is generally late with his throws as we was today in the end zone. He doesn't know how to throw a guy open. Once he takes off he is fine, but deciding to do it and pass on the run is terrible. Whoever said he throws better rolling out has no clue. The QB guru is no genius as well. To use his words, Martine is not a fast blinker. I don't think we play fast because Martinez cannot do it. Too much processing for him

Luke is not necessarily the answer either I am afraid. Haven't seen doing to really know. He does set his feet and get the ball out of his hands quicker. NW was also keeping everything in front of them on that last drive.

There is a reason we rarely throw over the middle, our QB's can't do it. We use TE's as our deep threat and throw more short passes than a little league team.

This game was very discouraging because the coaches have to know all this and they are not adjusting.

Luke hopefully will be named the starter next week

Yea, he should have just thrown the ball over his head to our wr who never is open, so it could get intercepted.

Nailed it.

We didn't even bring the passing game against Ohio State. Just a pile of swing passes, and blocking wideouts. Because we knew they'd pick his pocket early and often.

Unfortunately, that speaks a lot as to LM's development.

Yep! This was definitely on the Offense. Way to many false starts. Why?

Defense has been much improved so far and playing hard. But they can’t be out there all the time without help from the Offense.
